They probably shouldn't have allowed firms to pay immigrants less if they wanted to tackle that problem.

The 17 people they're gonna (fail to) send to Rwanda is a bad joke.

They made a promise and their plan to implement that promise was basically Rwanda. Anyone with half a brain could have told them it would never fly (pun intended), so one can only conclude they are comically incompetent.

As well as prone to making dumb promises.

You're gonna have to focus in a bit on your criticisms if this is something you're levelling at politicians :D

The voters voted the Conservatives into power based in part on their promise to do something about migrants, so now they're trying.

The Rwanda thing hasn't actually got much to do with 'immigration' y'know it's just to do with illegals. So quite how trying to 'tackle immigration' while focusing on 3% of it works, I do not know.

I wasn't being exclusive in my comment. Politicians don't have a monopoly on making dumb promises, although they feature heavily in any ranking.

Yeah, 'legal' migration is way bigger. But government would like us to focus on those nasty illegals 'invading' us...

Likewise. When my da was in hospital and unlikely ever to be home again,he was bombarded with letters threatening prosecution. I contacted them on 3 occasions and yet the letters still arrived. The BBC are despicable in the manner they treat those not in their net.
I "think" the TV licence is actually collected by another organisation, ie NOT the BBC themselves, the monies are then parcelled out to the BBC under the governance of some committee.

So - it's not the BBC themselves that are chasing the fees.

I'm just using it as a counterpoint to the "BBC funding is an example of government control" when clearly BBC funding has been like this forever and there are far more unscrupulous right-now policies, controlling and inhumane policies voted in under the radar that we didn't really get to choose. You can't blame the opposition for opposing such nonsense and ultimately reversing it if / when they get in. I don't think this Rwanda solution is even that popular amongst the real "send them back" mob tbh.

Apologies for the Rwanda deviation by the way chaps, feel free to carry on slagging off the Marxist BBC and moaning about the 15 quid.

I dread to raise it but the NHS is another good example, I'm convinced that if politics was taken off the table entirely and some clever chaps sat around a table then it could be improved to the point of being unrecognisable and whilst perhaps it wouldn't be perfect (because nothing ever can be), it wouldn't be far off.
A political sacred cow which due to societal and demographic changes is no longer fit for the purpose.
As such, it will have to die before being rebuilt as something relevant to current day needs. The obesity epidemic will probably finally kill it off (imo).

They'll have to restrict Attenborough to 3 days a week in his cryogenic chamber. How's he gonna get to 200 years old now? :o

He brings in the viewers who otherwise wouldn't watch BBC and therefore wouldn't pay their subs.

Seriously? So people wouldn't watch the football if they didn't have Gary Lineker talking over it?

I can understand perhaps a chat show where the host is really good and puts a good show on, or a comedian doing a game show or something, but a bloke talking over a football match is just that.
As far as I can remember, he doesn't even do the commentary, just the bits in between. So I agree, what he gets paid for that is a bit  However, good luck to him. I'd do it for the money.

I think you'll find a lot of agreement though. Particularly among the cohort that doesn't like what he says when he's not presenting football. I suspect some of them would welcome, say, Peter Shilton, getting paid the money for doing the same job though.
