SIREN SONG: TURBO GSX-R600 SRAD

Post by weeksy »

“It’s running at just over 200bhp at 15psi but I expect it to make around 250 once I have made a few upgrades over the winter, which will include an intercooler and making the engine stronger — it’s around 170kg dry weight.”

170kgs dry weight? I very much doubt it. A standard 750 SRAD is 180 kgs dry weight, and then you've got all that turbo and plumbing... I'd much prefer a stock 750 SRAD in Suzuki blue/white.

How can you doubt it ? it's there in black and white from the bloke who built it ?

Not exactly handed down in stone tablets from the Almighty is it? If I had a pound for every bloke who'd ever underestimated the weight and over-estimated the power of his 'special' I'd be a fair bit richer than I am now.

When I first saw the pic I had to check the thread title. I thought it was a BMW!

It's got a thou swing arm, which is probably lighter than the original 600 one. It's got all TI fasteners and it says Brembo wheels, but I've never heard of Brembo making light weight wheels.

If they are after market wheels that's probably where most of the weight saving would be.

If you really need a 200hp engine in a bike, you'd be better off buying a modern litre bike and getting a chassis designed to deal with it.

Still, not bad for a shed build.

He'd have to shave 10kgs off the standard bike to get down to 170 kgs and that's before all the extra weight associated with a turbo. Doesn't add up to me. My Falco had Brembo wheels and they weren't especially light. The Oz forged ali wheels I replaced them with were about 1.5kg per wheel lighter.

My dear Mango, modifying bikes successfully isn't easy.

GSXR600 SRAD is the most gutless bike I've ever ridden so a turbo is probably the best thing for it.

The GSXR600 must be the worst 4 cylinder motorcycle engine ever, weird because the 750 and 1000 are very good, I can't see how a turbo would improve a GSXR600, it'd just emphasise how bad it is.

I rest rode a GSXR600 and an R6 back to back when the R6 first came out at my local bike shop with a view of buying one or the other.

I bought the R6.

As mentioned, in comparison the Suzuki was totally gutless. The R6 did everything better.

The 600 SRAD handled well but the engine was godawful, I rode my mate's shops one when they serviced my Fazer 600. I was really excited when they said I could take the SRAD but by the time I got to work I wanted my Fazer back!

I had an SRAD 750, it was a brilliant bike, I rode an SRAD 600, it wasn't, an FZR600R is a better bike, never mind an R6.

TBF or says about 170kg. And from memory the 750 is 179, not 180. :P

I had a Baglux cover like that once. I had no idea I'd built a custom!
