Our scum society really does need a sort out. Not a humane , nice , human rights, friendly one, a proper nasty one. It's the only way.

Re: In todays news...
IMO modern society is showing some worrying similarities with older civilisations just before they imploded.

Re: In todays news...
There are action's that could be done to massively reduce crime, however, they wouldn't fit in with modern day thinking. There are no easy answers, only hard.
Capital punishment was last used in the uk in the 60s. Why do we have a problem getting rid of these sorts in a day when dna can confirm guilt. Deterrents are the only way to reduce crime.
I believe in years to come this will get re addressed, it will have to.

When the biggest crimes are being committed by the people running the country im not sure we will ever see a resolve until that point is addressed.Dodgy69 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 9:55 am There are action's that could be done to massively reduce crime, however, they wouldn't fit in with modern day thinking. Shit roles down hill, when the population can clearly see the corruption and sheer ruthlessness of the big corporations and their government 'i will look after you if you look after me' mates then nothing will change and we are all doomed to follow a path of more self destruction.
I will once again use an example based on children as this is what my mind refers to when speaking about politicians and big corrupt CEO:
If your child went to a school where the head teacher smokes, they will see that it's ok to smoke, if your child came home to you and you started beating on your wife your child will think it's to beat people up when they get older, when we see people in a powerful position abusing their power and then getting off free without charge in the courts we will think it's ok to commit crimes, it the same rule for all, isn't it?*
* - of course it's not, and this is my very point!

Yes, the death penalty may be re-addressed, especially if the Moslem religion gains a lot of influence.Dodgy69 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 9:55 am Capital punishment was last used in the uk in the 60s. There are other deterrents, besides the death penalty.
There will always be people wrongly convicted. DNA evidence is an advance in forensic science. There is a lot more going on in a murder trial than forensic science.
The prosecution will try to get a conviction, whether the defendant has committed the crime or not; the defence will try to get a not guilty verdict, whether the defendant has committed the crime or not; the jury are a bunch of idiots- they are our peers, after all.

Re: In todays news...
The simple fact that people still commit murder even when there is a death penalty (maybe not in the UK but plenty of other places do) blows that argument right out of the water.
Istr reading a long time ago that the fear of actually getting caught was the biggest deterrent. Things may have changed in that regard but human nature hasn't.

Re: In todays news...
Yep it a fair point, when corruption gets to the top, it's hard to move, it's how it works unfortunately.
Imo, it's the personal crimes against us normal folk that need sorting. Street crime, burglary, robbery. vehicle theft, etc. Statistics will tell you, increasing the chances of prosecution deters criminal behaviour best, in the real world that ain't gonna happen and the crims know it.
It's all about risk vs benifits of crime and today the benifits are winning big time. Unfortunately, I don't see this changing any time soon with our modern way of thinking and modern leadership.
Happy day's.

The death penalty won't deter murderers and psychopaths but it would stop me robbing that old ladies handbag. car or ripping her house apart.

When people are pushed to such levels as to where they have nothing they need to look at other ways to stay alive.Dodgy69 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 11:06 am Yep it a fair point, when corruption gets to the top, it's hard to move, it's how it works unfortunately.

I have a few mates who are loaded and unfortunately are Tory voters, One is South African, they don't give a fuck about people who don't have anything nor do they want to know why they are in that position, they are totally oblivious to any world outside their own. The SA mate thinks anyone that is black is poor because they can't be fucked to work etc, when in reality blacks and ethnic minorities (especially from other countries) have been hard done by by the education system and have not been given the chances a lot of others have had, so how do they get a job and pay their way? If you don't have the qaulifications or skills needed to gain lawful employment that payes enough to live in a society that is being pushed to breaking point with cost of living etc they will turn to crime, not as a choice, but through sheer desperation, unlike the people who hold all the aces who choose to actively break laws they themselves set out!
If we do not give the people that need help the help they need they are always going to take from the people that have more than they do. It makes me laugh when some toff in his 5 bed mansion and 3 Teslas gets robbed by the guy down the street who has to work 7 days a week to feed his family of three due to the corruption and lack of leadership we have in this country and in many others.
If the wealth in the world was more evenly distributed and not horded by 1% of the population then crime will drop dramatically, but again as this solution relies on the rich giving a little back to society this will never happen. If Greed has corrupted the minds of the people that need to make change for the better we are stuck in this situation of rising levels of crime until we, or should i say they, all eventually kill each other off and all of us others with them...fact!

I completely agree, but you must realise that this goes both ways, many times I've seen workers take the piss to the absolute limit and beyond, if they can get away with doing less than they should then they will, even if it harms the company, they absolutely do not care, the place could burn down in the night and as long as they get their money then they don't care.
Go and look at the HMRC website and look at who is cheating the taxman, it's not just the big boys, there are plenty of average self-employed blokes ripping the system off if they can, so if the general public are doing it then company bosses will see this and think why shouldn't I do it as well.
You can be the most ethical and law-abiding company owner ever, but if all your workers are trying to scam you and the system then sooner or later you'll start to turn your behaviour to their way of thinking.
I've got plenty of anecdotes from lads I know that run companies or departments and they've all got instances where workers have shafted them, sometimes very badly, they won't care if you lose your home, your business, the lot.
Unfortunately most of us are stuck in the middle, we have the Greed at the top of the chain taking everything they can from us that they don't really need, then we have the lower classes who just can't be fucked to do anything as most of their braincells have ran away, that's how i feel anyway.
But there is also a bit of thinking to be done to explain why those who don't want to work feel that way. Maybe they get almost fuck all pay so can't be fucked to work hard, maybe they are so depressed with the way things are they just don't give a fuck, maybe they don't feel they have a future so why bother, there will be a reason, the majority of the lazy classes will probably want to better themselves in reality but they don't see how this will ever happen so just don't give a fuck about anything.
When you can't see a future for yourself and are constantly being told to pay more money to people who have probably given you that state of mind in the first place then why fucking bother!
People need a reason to live, and need to be able to see a path to success. Hope is not enough anymore!

Yep, there's a lot wrong for sure...and all I see on the TV today is these same turnips, armed with hindsight talking shite in a covid enquiry which will result in fcukall, everyone's an expert after the event.
I'm off work with the lurgy atm, so plenty of time for me to talk shite.

Re: In todays news...
The issue I have with this mentally is that everyone believes they occupy the holier-than-thou middle ground, such as most people thinking they are above average in driving skill.
The plumber doing a job for cash is in the same moral category as the company director who massages the books. Both are tax evaders*. As am I, I suppose, for telling the counter staff the ol' fib that I'm going to take it away, as opposed to eating in, to save the VAT.
On the flip side, you you have Chris Hohn, hedge fund manager, who donated £3.4b to good causes last year. Minted bastard, for sure, but he doesn't have to give his money away.
Don't take this as criticism, but you tend to see the world very much in black and white, good vs. bad, evil rich vs. the noble poor. I think life is a bit more nuanced than that.
