I thought I'd failed my car test because I hesitated to pull out of the test centre - just meant that I totally relaxed cos I thought I'd failed, then I passed

On the bike test I probably should have failed because as I was finishing the U turn I touched the pavement (flat bit as it was a driveway) - but when I stopped and looked back, the examiner was getting on his bike, so I reckon he turned away before that happened!!! Not complaining though

Of course my next test will be either a taxi test or a coach driver test - in French!!!! Fck knows how I'll manage that!!

I assume the French test is very much like the English test, but with a requirement to cut corners.

I will let you know!!! The taxi one is four weeks in the classroom followed by a test then a driving test about 6 weeks later!!!

I'm guessing they will also teach me to tailgate properly and no signal at roundabouts!!

I got nicked for speeding on my bike (fully licenced) a few days before my car test. That was back when you had to take your licence to the cop shop, so I took my car test with a speeding ticket playing the role of my licence.

They didn't want to let me do it, but after some arguing and then some more arguing from my (ex traffic cop) instructor they let me do it.

They then put me through the 90 min extended test they make people returning from a ban do.

Still passed, first time, with only 4 minors.

Passed my bike test first time with just one minor, which pissed me off I locked both wheels on the e stop too, but since it was raining cats and dogs, I didn't stop with the wheels locked and I didn't put a foot down the instructor didn't even give me a minor.

The Parisian version is much more difficult and requires tailgating at suicidal speeds. Indicators should never be used, hand gestures are important as is use of the horn.

My son has attempt no 4 this afternoon.

Edit- my son took 4 attempts at passing his theory test

I don't think the theory test is a reflection on someone's ability to drive a car in any way, knowing the rules and applying them in practice are two different things, and driving a car is a lot more than just applying the rules of the road.

Last night we tried to book his practical test and all available dates are in April / may next year depending on what centre you want to go to, so we booked one in may.

Today, boy rings to say he's managed to get a cancellation..... Next Monday , let's hope he's ready.
