I don't mind the looks,but as mofo said,that frontal area will be an arse to keep clean,flies and all the other schitt will pack into every cranny,then folks will hit it with a power washer and....KTM.

At £20k it's obviously priced for the pcp market,where only the monthly payments matter.

I think it might be.

I reckon they currently have trouble designing a big naked that the masses like. Sports bikes with fairings is maybe a simpler design brief.

Headlights, plastic surrounds, exhausts and maybe subframes are all very devisive in the punters world and I'm not blown away by any of them. Imo the Ducati Streetfighters are maybe the best of an ugly bunch. Maybe retro is the way after all.

Just watched 44 Teeth's musings on the SDR 1390 and apparently bore size is up from 108mm to 110mm - those are seriously BIG pistons to be flapping around at 10k rpm. I checked in my owner's manual and my 690 Duke only has a 105mm piston. KTM must surely be running into some kind of piston size/piston speed limit fairly soon if they keep on boring that lump out.

The 44 teeth guys expressed the view that if KTM aren't actively working on a new V4 platform already, they really should be giving it serious thought in the immediate term...

The limit on piston size and rpm is the weight of the piston and the strength of the con rod, I doubt if a 2mm increase in bore massively increases the weight of the piston when it's already huge.

It's primarily piston speed that's the limiting factor, so KTM have dodged that by keeping the stroke the same and just increasing the bore. I do wonder how much further they can go with the current design though.

HArd to argue... but i don't get the sportsbike versions either personally as so few bikers ride on track now. But i also don't get 1200 Multistrada bikes etc... I just don't understand it in this day and age with roads like they are.

Most exciting bike i've seen this year is the BMW F900XR... Now that looks superb.

I know i am a Multi fanboi having 2 of them so far ....but..... the idea behind them IMO is a sportsbike engine in a comfortable chassis and riding position. A sportsbike now would cripple me and i cant tour on it anymore. The Multi allows me to tour, commute and i am one of the few who have done some off road with it that i wouldnt have attempted on a sportsbike.

I am sure a better rider on some decent tyres could make it a decent track tool as well but it does me adequately for my abilities but i could probably set a better lap on a 636. The fact i can ride there with all my camping gear and then stay for the weekend on track and then ride it home again sells it to me in spades. I couldnt do that in the comfort i do now on any sports bike ...or an XSR900 for that matter


On the KTM in the thread i imagine its a complete fucking hooligan tool and a laugh on track with some sticky rubber. The headlight on the new one looks better than the old one even though i am not a fan of the general KTM angle designs

There was an all singing all dancing 1290 in the dealers in Biarritz for €24,990 !!

Saw one at the dealers on Saturday (I assumed it was the new one anyway) and it looked pretty aggressive.
