Re: Electric bike recommendations
Fella I know is just doing a round the UK coast ride on a Zero DSR-X, trying to break some record. Bit cold for me.....

Re: Electric bike recommendations
The Tesla or the ICE?
One of the transfer companies out here runs 3 Teslas and 3 Merc electric minibuses for transfers all winter!! Even down in the valley it's regularly below freezing - and up in resorts its often -10 or more/less (never sure if it's more cos the number is bigger or less because it's further down the minus scale!!)
(I apologise if I missed a joke in there somewhere )

Re: Electric bike recommendations
Someone should probably tell that Ski Transfer company Noggin refers to so they know that they can't have been successfully using them all winter in past Must've been a mistake.

Re: Electric bike recommendations
But it's manageable! These guys will often do 500+kms in a day with a charge in between dropping and picking up passengers (less is quite possible, but that is probably the longest day). All through the winter. As far as I know they don't have to charge between leaving base, going to resort and on to the airport but if they do, then the customers are quite happy with it.
Of course, I could be wrong as I never drove the electric vehicles in the 2 months I worked for them! LOL But, they must have it worked out as the EVs are very popular with the customers

I'll tell Rob he's got it wrong for the last four or five years when I see him next!!
Well, what I'll actually do is ask him about the specifics so I can come back and say how it works for them. I'm more likely to see one of the drivers that mainly drives those. Either way, whoever I see first, I'll get some info

Re: Electric bike recommendations
Worst case scenario can you get another battery for them ? Or indeed remove the battery and store indoors when not in use ?

Re: Electric bike recommendations
I didn't say it was perfect, but it is manageable.
I was responding to your comment that said cold temps kill the range.
Yes, it may reduce it, but if it is still manageable for airport transfers where I live (we have much more consistent cold temps), then it's totally manageable in the uk!!

Re: Electric bike recommendations
Fella that I know that's currently doing this UK coastal ride on a Zero reckons the cold isn't affecting the bikes range a great deal, getting about what Zero publishes....

Re: Electric bike recommendations
Oh yes, definitely manageable. It's when you start putting heated seats, aircon demister etc, the range will drop. Some worse than others probably.Noggin wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 11:21 amI didn't say it was perfect, but it is manageable.

Re: Electric bike recommendations
Can't honestly remember? But then again tech has moved on a lot since then, so possibly was a more pronounced issue then than now?Potter wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 4:02 pmIIRC didn't Charlie and Ewan get problems in South America on the electric bikes when it was really cold?v8-powered wrote: ↑Thu Nov 30, 2023 12:08 pm Fella that I know that's currently doing this UK coastal ride on a Zero reckons the cold isn't affecting the bikes range a great deal, getting about what Zero publishes....

Re: Electric bike recommendations
I never left my battery outside on the bike, it was London after all. I took it inside to charge both ends and never noticed a problem in the cold, it probably wasn't out there long enough to get cold.
