Weird adverts on TV -
Ok, there's a baked beans ad on tv at the mo and I see the guy packing baked beans, then being on holiday and crying. Did Customs confiscate his beans??
It's just really weird to me!!

My MIL used to take washing powder... in sandwich bags. It was a long time ago. I'd love to see her try it now.

Its just weird! I mean, if I'm visiting the uk and coming back here, I'd be tempted (although not allowed to anymore, so not sure I want to deal with customs on that score) but that's only cos I only go to the uk maybe once a year and we can't get cheap reasonable bacon here!!
But for a holiday??!!!

There was a legend about a woman taking her TV to Benidorm, so she wouldn’t miss Coronation Street.

Re: Weird adverts on TV -
The weirdest thing about adverts on TV is that anyone takes any notice of them!
(Which is probably why they get more and more desperate...like the skidmarks one...which is actually an 'internal' advert ie advertising the channel not a product).
The further you go down the Freeview list the more desperate it gets and the more it's aimed at erm, gullible old folk. Equity release, funeral plans, charities wanting bequests etc etc etc. They are supposed to be trying to protect kids from detrimental advertising but they should be as concerned about the older generation.
(Soz. Spent the day with a half-relative even more aged than me and had to sort out a few things. I took one look at their smartphone and laptop their offspring had gifted*, with no training, and threw my hands up in horror. FFS! If you're going to give people the tech at least coach them in how to use it and tidy stuff up a bit when you get 5 minutes and bother to visit. 4 sons < 1 chocolate fireguard. I'm slightly incandescent).
*So they could purchase an essential bit of kitchen kit to replace a failed one.

Re: Weird adverts on TV -
In all honestly I usually take no notice - the adverts are in English and I don't live in England! Bt very occasionally one just really annoys me! LOLCount Steer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 8:19 pm The weirdest thing about adverts on TV is that anyone takes any notice of them!

Sun Life plan ads. You just know the old boy with the binos is perving at the local girls school. And the "I've just been to a funeral..." one. She's colourfully dressed and way to cheerful...

Step away from the TV. You have far too much detailed knowledge of crap TV ads...

I never watch live TV,so I haven't watched any ads for years. It's what your FF button is for.

Re: Weird adverts on TV -
The ad that grinds my gears at the moment is the Panadol Extra one.
It's talks about the two main points of 'pain'. When you have pain and when you don't have pain, then goes on about the 'status' between the two and how great it is.
Makes no fucking sense at all.

Last time I was sick I dozed in front of daytime telly. I didn't mind the content so much but ffs the ads don't half prey on the sort of sad sacks who're watching telly in the day. Cremations, insurance, donations, mobility aids - on repeat. Depressing

The crematorium adverts claim a 5 star satisfaction rate.Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 8:19 pm The weirdest thing about adverts on TV is that anyone takes any notice of them!

Imagine the feedback: Cracking little place, got a bit hot, but all in all, highly recommended.
