But it looks hideous and in order to clean up properly after an oil change it has to be removed every time, which quickly gets old. I've still got it, stashed away somewhere at the back of the shed, so I could re-fit it just for the MoT if needs be but hopefully that won't be required.
Here's the kind of crap left behind after an oil change:

The defence rests its case.
I used to do this in my 20's and 30's, but now I'm in my 50's I've learnt that it's obnoxious, women don't drop their knickers at a loud exhaust, and I much prefer the stealthy side of things.
Grow up FFS.

I honestly fail to see how I'm hurting, diminishing, or inconveniencing anyone by deleting the cat on a bike I own. The Akra can was OE with the R model and has a very efficient db killer. The bike is only very slightly louder than standard in any case and by no means obnoxious.
And now I'm in my 70s I've given up worrying what people think of me and have never been under the delusion that women drop their knickers for anything bike-related.

In your opinion the noise isn't obnoxious. Have you measured the noise, through the entire rev range, to back up your claim that it is "only very slightly louder than standard"?mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 7:23 pmI'll have you know I'm on the libertarian wing of lefty-think...westers151 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 7:07 pm For a leftie you don't half show some Torry character traits. I do have a working pair of ears, and I'm able to make comparative judgements. I also have an MoT tester that is very quick to tell me if the exhaust noise of any of my bikes is even slightly excessive.westers151 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 7:29 pm In your opinion the noise isn't obnoxious. I wasn't sure about that as here it's a government run agency responsible for testing. If a vehicle fails they tell you why and you arrange yourself to have the work done, then make another appointment. The rest of the UK have garages do the job.

I dunno, maybe photographs of a professionally calibrated decibel meter, before and after might be good enough... then he could move on to the baby murdering additional hydrocarbons you are emitting.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 8:56 pmWhatever answer I came up with would have been unacceptable.westers151 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 8:53 pm"No" would have been a quicker answer.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 7:59 pm

You haven't answered it; all you have done is offer something about ears and an MOT tester. Neither of those comments address the question I asked.

No, I haven't measured the exhaust noise throughout the entire rev range or any part thereof. I am also blissfully unaware of any additional baby-murdering hydrocarbons my illegally tampered-with exhaust system is now emitting.westers151 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 9:00 pmI asked the question: "Have you measured the noise, through the entire rev range, to back up your claim that it is "only very slightly louder than standard?"mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 8:56 pmWhatever answer I came up with would have been unacceptable.

I would also submit that I have a long and inglorious history of fitting non-OE exhaust systems to motorcycles going back as far as 1970 or thereabouts. I am an habitual and incorrigible offender and quite frankly my dear, I don't give a fuck.

You could have stopped at your first word, "No".
No idea what murdering hydrocarbons have anything to do with my question about sound.

No, this is IMPORTANT.
