What boots?

I've been having a massive house clearout this week, and part of that was chucking away a load of old bike gear, old lids etc. My missus hasn't ridden for 10-odd years and isn't likely to start again, so I took most of her old gear to the tip, including some old Sidis she had.

Came home to see the Sidis still sat there. Looked for my TCXs....

So, I need some new boots

I've always had Oxtar/TCX and been very happy with them. Are they still a decent choice?

I'm a fan of Oxtar/TCX, the last few pairs have been so good that I generally don't look elsewhere. I tend to stick to the sports touring boots (with the all important toe sliders) rather than the full on track boots.

I've got two pairs of Daytonas, Carver and Flash, bought them from Germany, both are good, the Carvers are a bit better than the Flash, but the soles are getting a bit thin on them.

If you're going for Daytona's you want the ones that are a boot frame with interchangeable/replaceable exterior skins.

Always struck me as a great idea, but far to spendy for me.

I had a couple of pairs of Daytonas, one MX style the other were Road Star. The Road Star were incredibly comfortable even for walking while training.

Yes, my last pair of Daytonas ended up being about £220 with the import tax

But yes, I was shocked to see the cost to replace my boots! So, I'm going to get them fixed instead (wore some stitching through in the tarmac interface!! )

Most of the time nowadays i am wearing army surplus Altberg Defenders with a decent layer of Polish on them. Never leaked so far even in torrential weather and ideal for stomping around when i am doing training. Only time the Alpinestars SMX Plus come out is when i am wearing leathers.



If you dont mind wearing boots other people have had on then FB marketplace is full of bargains

Seconded on Altbergs. I've got the Bandog style, completely waterproof and comfortable for wearing on site visits.

I've also got a pair of Rev'it Discover H2O which are superb too. Styling not to everyone's taste and if you've got chunky calves you might struggle to get them wrapped around...

I had a pair of Carvers that for some reason I gave away to the Salvation Army in CH .
Still don't know why I did that!

Another fan of Oxtar/TCX. Been wearing them since 2006 as I was so impressed with my first pair that I stuck with the brand. Currently use these which are mucho comfy on/off the bike and feel fairly protective. In summer they flow a bit of air but aren't too cold in spring/autumn. More spendy than I'd usually get but it was my birfday when they came out.
