Order 24 bottles of vino to see us through the weekend, tell wine company no one will be home on Thursday to receive. Guess what's just turned up?

I had a similar thing a few years back. Dentist informed me that wisdom teeth don't move at our age. Sure it isn't infected? Mine used to have the habit of trapping food as it was really hard to floss (nice!!).Taipan wrote: Thu Nov 23, 2023 11:12 am My wisdom tooth is BMP right now. Had a back tooth extracted many years ago. A few years later the dentist told me I have a wisdom tooth making its way down. As it was heading straight down it should be able to go into the gap provided by the extracted tooth, but it may change direction? It broke the surface some years back and that was it. Howvever,in the last 10 days the bastard thing has decided to come down and join the other teeth in a very painful and annoying way!

In the end, I had it extracted (which didn't go well, but that's another story.

Old people who shop in front of me (and by old I mean 70+)
Just collecting a few things whilst in town, little old dear in front of me, 5 items......lovely i think.
The cashier asks her if she has a loyalty card, she digs her purse out, has a rummage, gets the loyalty card out.......beep, back in the purse, purse gets shut up and put back in the handbag
She eventually loads the 5 items into her bag 4 life ( which if she ever goes in front of me again will be very short), then the look of shock and incredulity when the cashier asks her to pay. Out comes the purse, rummage rummage, puts the card in the wrong way around, what's this on the screen (a bit of Dd chugging) and eventually pays for it, then questions why she doesnt have a receipt ( if you scan your loyalty card, they email it to you). When all the tills go self serve, she'll starve to death!

At least she didn't pay by cheque, which seems to be the default for french pensioners in supermarkets.

The cheque is finally being phased out.
It will have its last hurrah in the weeks leading up to xmas where the local supermarche offers not to cash your cheque until January sometime, so taking some pressure off at this joyous time of year. That'll be fun, when all the pikeys come into shop with free credit for 4 weeks!

I'm pissed that I didn't notice, yet happy I had enough kicking around to not notice and happier that it's back

It boils my piss that we're not doing the same in the UK. Seriously? Cheques in 2023?

Does anywhere in the UK still take them, the only ones I ever see are from the DVLA?

Mrs. G (via her company) gets them regularly from schools*. Proper PITA as they are of an amount too large to pay in on the app.**KungFooBob wrote: Thu Nov 23, 2023 2:21 pmDoes anywhere in the UK still take them, the only ones I ever see are from the DVLA?
*They claim, apparently, that they require two signatures and therefore cannot be sent automatically. Complete bullshit, they're just usually so stuck in their ways and can't comprehend/be arsed to change.
**And how's that for irony? The cheques are all printed, so originate electronically, they get printed and sent, only to be converted back to an electronic payment. FFS, just make a Faster payment.

I'm sure they deliberately send tax refunds by cheque, simply because they know most people CBA to bank them.KungFooBob wrote: Thu Nov 23, 2023 2:21 pmDoes anywhere in the UK still take them, the only ones I ever see are from the DVLA?

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Cheques were great in my youth when racing.
Used to send the entries off with cheque in plenty of time, but forget to sign
Then just sign on race day
I did 40 meetings one year so would have been a lot to pay up front.

VAT rebates are always by cheque, they know how awkward it is to pay them in.KungFooBob wrote: Thu Nov 23, 2023 2:21 pmDoes anywhere in the UK still take them, the only ones I ever see are from the DVLA?

I didn't have a pre-printed paying in book which is required to use the Post Office and finding a branch is a nightmare that I'd never have to do if it wasn't the government returning money they shouldn't have had in the first place.

TBF i would rather wait at a till for someone to write a cheque out than the muppets using a phone that is still in the pocket when packing the bags. After a fumble getting it out they then need to dick about with a pin, search for an app and as they are flustered due to being a twat they cant connect to the till screen until attempt 5. Asda shoppers are 100% the worst as they also need to dick about with the ASDA fucking app first.

Even worserer are the old 'uns who insist on putting their cards into the reader, fumbling a few times before getting in, then squinting to put in their PIN in very slowly, using exaggerated and deliberate movements, in order to pay for their two-pints of milk and cat food.
And all the time you can see the contactless symbol printed on their card...
Just touch and go, gramps.....touch and go....

Yes, but you'll have to elbow through the pajama-clad-at-4pm-mums and mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging unwashed to get it.MrLongbeard wrote: Thu Nov 23, 2023 3:26 pmHeh heh, and come time to do the xmas food / booze shop it'll give me £100+ off my billFelix wrote: Thu Nov 23, 2023 3:17 pm Asda shoppers are 100% the worst as they also need to dick about with the ASDA fucking app first.![]()
Or maybe that's just the ASDA at Swanley.

My Dentists didn't seem bothered about it. Just said let us know if it causes you any problems. So, I'm assuming it'll just grow into place?gremlin wrote: Thu Nov 23, 2023 12:35 pmI had a similar thing a few years back. Dentist informed me that wisdom teeth don't move at our age.
