AS YOU WISH: CCM MOTORCYCLES ROLLS OUT FACTORY CUSTOMIZATION
https://www.bikeexif.com/ccm-motorcycles-factory-custom
CCM MOTORCYCLES EPITOMIZES the symbiosis between motorcycle manufacturers and the custom scene. The boutique British brand’s offerings are all based on the same lightweight single, and they all riff on popular custom styles. So motorcycle customization is quite literally baked into what they do.
Now CCM is taking things up a notch, by offering a commission service that will pretty much go as deep as your pockets allow. This CCM Tracker and Roadster are the first two commissioned bikes off the production line—and despite how good they look, they only scratch the surface of what’s on offer.
The concept is as simple as it is brilliant. The six models currently in CCM’s catalog are all built using the company’s likable Spitfire platform. The Spitfire uses a twin-spar chromoly trellis frame, with a 600 cc single-cylinder motor kicking out 55 hp.
CCM uses different subframes, seats, wheels, exhausts, handlebars, and finishes to give each model its distinct style. And with a dry weight in the region of 145 kilos [320 lbs], depending on the trim, each is barrels of fun in its own way.
This approach means that each CCM model is effectively a custom Spitfire—so all that CCM has done, is make the customer part of the customization process. And the way they’ve set it all up means that there are myriad ways to approach it.
Customers can order a base version of each CCM model, or they can choose from various primo versions of the bike that include various customization options and parts upgrades. With that selection as a starting point, the customer can then personalize individual bits and pieces via a configurator on CCM’s website. There are 20 points of customization out of the box, with the potential for more if the website doesn’t quite cater to your needs.

I usually find something I hate in mosr custom bikes. This approach could work. And a really light 55bhp job would suit me.

I looked on their stand at the NEC and I've no idea what or who they are for, some were £15k. Are people putting them in a mancave and not riding them ?, is there some perceived notion they make you cool if you buy one as tbh most people on the stand were bigger older folk who riding one would look like a monkey on a mangle no matter how much Belstaff gear they had on.

Have they improved the engine at all since the "Spitfire"? The one I rode once was like a jack-hammer with wheels.

I don't get them at all, they're just not for me. Irrelevant though as they apparently can sell everything they make, no problem.

Never been much of a fan of them until i saw one up close. Like a lot of bikes they do look better IRL than on paper. Still didnt make me want one though...Count Steer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2023 8:43 am *hunts through options list for 'decent mudguards suited to British weather'*

Re: AS YOU WISH: CCM MOTORCYCLES ROLLS OUT FACTORY CUSTOMIZATION
I started from the viewpoint of 'how much would it cost to replicate as closely as possible my 2017 KTM Duke R'?' The answer, I quickly realised, is that it would be pretty much impossible at any cost. For a start CCM's 600cc engine only produces 55 bhp. My Duke makes a dyno-proven 73 bhp. Quoted dry weights are 140 kg (CCM Roadster) and 147.5 kg (Duke). Once the heavy, ugly and intrusive Cat has been removed from the Duke, its dry weight is within 2-3 kg of the CCM. So straight away the CCM is at a substantial power to weight disadvantage. CCM do offer a factory remap upgrade, but don't specify how much extra power/torque it provides. The stage 1 remap costs £449.
Then you look at the specification of the (£12,495) base CCM Roadster model. It comes with 'adjustable' Marzocchi forks and YSS shock. The Duke R has WP Apex forks with adjustable rebound and compression and WP shock with rebound, preload and hi/lo speed compression adjustment. Ohlins suspension F/R is offered as an option on the CCM, but at an additional cost of £2,481.
Moving onto brakes, the Duke R has a top-spec Brembo M50 caliper, 320mm Brembo disc and Brembo radial master cylinder at the front. The more expensive CCM has a J.Juan caliper and smaller wavy disc. An upgrade to twin Brembo calipers and discs is available on the CCM at a cost of £1,200. I could go on, as the CCM extras catalogue is a thing of wonder (and expense).
It quickly became apparent to me that CCMs are only of interest to people with deep pockets and who want a truly custom product. I'm not in that target market and will very happily stick to my Duke R.

I remember drooling over one of their BSA reincarnations in Bike when I was a kid, they certainly seem to have lost their way. A mate had one of their supermotos about 20yrs ago, looked & went well but the seat was an instrument of torture.

The one I saw was in the back of the webuyanybike.com collection van. The collection guy said it came with all manner of extras, like ccm branded paddock stand and other stuff that I cant remember. I doubt CCM chucked them in for free, so like you said, probably for people with deep pockets.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2023 9:54 am I started from the viewpoint of 'how much would it cost to replicate as closely as possible my 2017 KTM Duke R'?' Re: AS YOU WISH: CCM MOTORCYCLES ROLLS OUT FACTORY CUSTOMIZATION
A mate of mine had one and had to have a replacement frame under warranty. it looked good but wasn't..
the stand at the NEC was well stocked with various different versions. its a v small single, its £12-15k. Like @mangocrazy says, its easier to smarten up your 690 for very little money.

Re: AS YOU WISH: CCM MOTORCYCLES ROLLS OUT FACTORY CUSTOMIZATION
When i was a kid they ueed to do Scambles (pre MX name) over the fields near us. The bikes were all 2 smokes, CRs, RMs etc. Then a guy turned up on a weird, old fashioned 4 stroke thing and was trouncing everyone out of corners etc. That guy was Vic Eastwood on a CCM. So for me, CCMs were a bit legendary when i was a kid and I didnt hesitate to buy one when the R30s came out. For all their bad press, which was due in many cases, they were a far better bike than the piece of shit KTMLC4 I replaced it with! Of course, KTM went onto improve and sadly I dont think CCM have ever really achieved the build quality they should have. In my mind the CCM name still has good standing though...Bustaspoke wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2023 11:50 am I've never 'Got' CCM & I've no ambition to own one of those at the top of the thread, but they keep selling the things so they must be doing something right.Lost on me though..

Re: AS YOU WISH: CCM MOTORCYCLES ROLLS OUT FACTORY CUSTOMIZATION
I'd have one as a high days and holidays bike, even it it cost twice as much as a KTM after I'd specced it up.
Comparing a custom CCM to a KTM just doesn't make any sense, they're different bikes for different people, for different purposes in different price brackets.

You're a marketing man's dream punter... Bling it up, make it reassuringly expensive, only sell the product in small quantities and with 'hand built' cachet and laugh all the way to the bank. The fact that its dynamic on-road performance is inferior to something costing half the price is entirely irrelevant.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2023 1:02 pm I'd have one as a high days and holidays bike, even it it cost twice as much as a KTM after I'd specced it up.

Nope, price doesn't matter, exclusivity plays a small part, hand built means nothing to me, hell if Mutt or any other manufacturer made this for half the cost I'd still have one, I like still like CCM's after having had 2 of them.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2023 1:10 pmYou're a marketing man's dream punter... Dynamic on-road performance, Roflcopter, will it get me to the local greasy spoon, will I look good doing it, will I have old men and kids coming up for a look and chat, will I open the garage up just for a look on a damp winter night, will I spend more time spannering on it than riding it? How a bike like this rides only accounts for 50% of the whole ownership experience.
I'd sooner be £5k, £10k, £15k out of pocket have something like this in the garage and use it 6 times a year than have a free KTM in there

All very well and good, but I'll wait and see if you actually shell out on one rather than just having a misty-eyed reverie over it.
