Too early for a Christmas grouch-like moan?
Feck it. Bring on the festive season misery early, I say.
So, Boxing Day me and Mrs. G are off on holibobs. You'd think somebody might step up and say, 'You guys are probably going to be tied up with stuff, getting set for holiday, packing, etc. Why not come to dinner at ours? We can take a turn given you've hosted for the last umpteen years. You know, save all the running around shopping and prepping'.
Maybe? Right?
Nope. Looks like Chez Gremlin will be party central once more and guess who'll be slaving over the hot stove..?
And breathe...
Feel free to add any Yuletide gripes here.

Our neighbours recently invited us to Xmas BBQ on the beach.
Apparently I'm in charge of keeping the beer cold

Current plans have me slaving over a smoker for the turkey this year, but I've no need to worry about cold beer as keeping it in the garage will see to that

I don't get asked. Mrs. G makes these plans without my knowledge because she is a far better, nicer person than I will ever be.

Similar last year, I ended up having a proper hissy fit....
Us having a new home, lots of nosey family and friends wanting to snoop plus kids thinking house is party central for their friends. Safe to say this year isn't going to be a repeat

He loves it really. Doing a Christmas dinner or bossin' the barbecue is the modern man equivalent of bagging a dinosaur/being useful.
(I bet he drives the supermarket trolley too. )

Re: Too early for a Christmas grouch-like moan?
It's a fair point.
However, I do get that she doesn't want to leave her dad on his own, which is admirable. In past years, she'd say the same about her brother and/or sister, depending on their marital/relationship status. Would I want to see them sat on their Jack with a microwave meal for one and sorry-looking paper hat? Probably not. I suspect this year Gremlinette's ex-girlfriend and her mum will be coming, as they will be on their own otherwise.
Christ, I'm reading what I've written and realise I sound like bloody Scrooge now.

Judging by what gets into the Olympics these days I reckon we could enter a GB Mens Formation Trolley team. I like doing the 360° (or 720° ) spins in tight aisles. Dunno if I could keep smiling insanely for long enough though.

Re: Too early for a Christmas grouch-like moan?
Luckily being the youngest in the family i have never had to host christmas. I have 2 older sisters and we rotate around each year going one then the other, they are both decent cooks.
However, over the past few months it seems they have fallen out and this year we are all doing our own thing. One of my sisters is entertaining her in laws and my other doing the same but at their own houses.
I offered for them to all come to mine for some jerk chicken and a rave up but they declined...
So what i am saying gremmers, is at least you have somewhere to go at christmas, i shall be in on my own till boxing day when we are all meeting up down a local eatery, which, if my sisters are still funny with each other could make for an eventful afternoon!
