Surfshark??
Not that much fun!! But, has anyone used it as a VPN?
I did try a recommended one and still couldn't sign up to Discovery+ (or whatever had the BSB), so just wondering if anyone has tried surfshark and how they got on.
There seems to be a pretty good deal for this week (well, for the next three years!) that would save me a fair bit over the way I currently watch uk tv, and will also (hopefully) enable me to watch motorsport in english too!
Just wary of signing up if its a bit of an unknown

So does that mean it's bad because it showed up?KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 1:56 pm No idea, but it showed up in my firewall logs this morning, someone is trying to use it on the guest WiFi
Was a bit peeved last time to find that even with a Vthingy I couldn't get onto Discovery+, so want to make sure I choose a good one this time (and if it's on a Black Friday price, so much the better!! LOL)

Re: Surfshark??
I've been using Surfshark since the beginning of the MotoGP season to watch the MotoGP races (and some WSB) for free. For MotoGP I connect to a Surfshark server in Austria using a VPN, then open a Servus.tv web page and watch the races. It's been pretty good - very few drop outs and most of the time the stream quality is good. The Servus.tv stream is free to air in Austria, so once you've connected to the Surfshark point of presence in Austria it thinks you're 'local' and off you go.
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

Exactly what I do, but with Nord.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 3:50 pm I've been using Surfshark since the beginning of the MotoGP season to watch the MotoGP races (and some WSB) for free. We have to watch BBC via the iplayer now, and we often get a 2062 error come up.
Or sometimes we can watch 3 out of the 4 channels, or 2 or all 4, then tomorrow, nothing. Just re connect until you get a high number server and away you go.
Or if you can choose the location as per my tablet, then I always go Manchester and never have an issue.

Re: Surfshark??
Yup I use it, on Android & W10 purely for when traveling (we go way quite a lot throughout the year) to secure public WiFi and also to enable me to still appear to be in the UK and watch Eurosport/ BT/TNT etc, and one or two other UK things securely
Generally, it works well for that on most, but is shit on a few sites- BBC news specifically where you'll click on a story link and you'll get a "link expired" type message from the site's content servers, ITV has been another
It also managed to royally fuck up OH's iPhone one time after an update which necessitated a visit to the Apple shop, so it only gets a 6/10 for me- I won't be renewing in a year or so's time when my 3 yr subs is up.

Re: Surfshark??
Whichever I get, I only plan to put it on the iPad (I don't use that for anything else - it's basically just for streaming Netflix and TV!) because from that I can chuck it at the tv! Don't really want it on my laptop as I've had one confuse the laptop before
It's difficult to choose as there are always bad reps with the good !!
But I might have to decide this week and MTFU and JFDI !! LOL LOL

Out of interest, why would someone choose Surfshark over Nord? Not something I need to know but Nord always seems to come out quite well.Noggin wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 6:10 pm Whichever I get, I only plan to put it on the iPad (I don't use that for anything else - it's basically just for streaming Netflix and TV!) because from that I can chuck it at the tv! Re: Surfshark??
How many devices can it be used on? I use IPvanish what allows multiple devices and its been great for hiding my IPTV usage. Like most remember to switch it on first

Very happy to be told I'm being daft and should go for Nord (or someone else) but just wary
No idea. I only need it for one, but I'll go look. I'll have a look at IPvanish as well. Thanx

Re: Surfshark??
Happy to recommend Windscribe. You can open a free account first & check whether it does what you need it to before paying.

Re: Surfshark??
You can probably do this with others but on IPVanish you can pay about a tenner for a month. See if it works and if happy sign up. Think i an just under £30 for the year and could half that if i had signed for 24 month

Re: Surfshark??
Another free one is Proton VPN but you only get one country to choose from. It used to be three.

Re: Surfshark??
This is one reason I'm looking at this. Because I enquired before, I've had mails telling me about the offer for this week, and it looks relatively cheap on the offer, but I have no idea about these things, so a bit wary!!

Re: Surfshark??
How many years are you signing up for? Things can change for you personally and not need it after 12 month or something better/cheaper comes along so this is why i only signed for a year.

Just tested that using my IPVanish. Re: Surfshark??
Haven't got that far!! I won't be leaving France in the near (or distance) future if I have any choice in the matter! Hopefully in a couple of years I can understand the commentary better for the MotoGP, but it isn't possible to get BSB or WSB here without a VPN, so even if I do sign up for 3 years, I can't see my needs changing that fast!!

I just went on d+ and had a look at the all the program adverts. I have uk plus on the telly which works just fine.
All on nord
Surprised you can stream to a telly using a vpn. None of my devices (all android though) will do that.

Fair enough. I kinda knew I was being daft, but also I'm not good at working out VPNs and use. Tis why I've never managed to get one because anytime I've had one it's buggered up something I want to do on the laptop! LOL
I'm pretty sure that when I tried Nord, I put the programme from the iPad to the TV via AppleTV. But, TBF, if I can't it isn't the end of the world. Sometimes Canal+ doesn't go to the TV, but sometimes it does! It seems to depend if I've already been using FilmOn, or maybe if I'm watching live or watching something on replay!!
I need to find someone that is not only a mechanic, but a geeky-tech and willing to put up with a FUF!!
I'll have a proper look at the options tomorrow and sort it! I have three weeks till my FilmOn subscription runs out, so I'd like to be able to watch the beeb and others after that!! (and have it cost less than FO costs - I fubar'd the subscriptions before so they balanced out everything and what I paid for mistakenly runs out in three weeks!)
