Can't recall many specifics but I do recall more than one person on here ordering one thing and then something else turning up. Jody's KTM "speedo" for one.
I ordered a "dutch hoe" (no, I'm not even kidding - you can't get them easily over here) and three weeks later after some messing around with back-order shenanigans what turned up was ..... some goalposts!. I berated the missus for accepting a delivery because while it might have been plausibly a "dutch hoe shaped box", the weight of it indicated it would contain at least a dozen effing hoes. ;)
This was just Amazon being occasionally rubbish by the way, no fiendish oriental devils are implicated.

Oh yeah, you can't inspect 'Quality' into a product. (I did work in a company that had an Inspection Department....next door to 'Dispatch'. One might say this was a little late in the process. ).

I read somewhere that Temu's owners had their last website shutdown as it was installing malware on devices without permission.

So your 50p saving on a pair of shoelaces might feel pretty insignificant when your bank account gets hacked for a few thousand quid !!

Then you shouldn't buy from Temu

Expensive doesn't mean quality, but quality means expensive :D

I done a couple of "shops" on Temu six months ago and I got exactly what I was expecting. I bought an LED torch and a stacking draining board which are good quality. I bought a single headlight grill for the Speed which was too small but who cares for less than a tenner. I got a couple of T shirts and a hoodie which look cheap because they were and a few other household sundries which were ok. I didn't have to return anything.

I'm guessing it's obvious that if you want quality you wouldn't shop there. I've now heard stories of card details being leaked so I've not shopped there since.

I used it as they have stuff I can't find elsewhere, especially for the price. I accept a right load of junk could turn up and that's factored into what I'm prepared to pay but my single order so far was spot on. My wife has used it with good results, it seems a bit too good to be true with the discounts but that may be because they are running at a loss intentionally.

I'd rather buy local and not made in China but sometimes that's impossible.

Yup, if something is so cheap you have to question where the money comes from to cover their loss leader, and the answer of course is your data- you’re the product they're really selling.
https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/mar ... -data.html

And they’re also currently being investigated for selling user data including credit card details in the US- I guess that if you don't install the app ( ie just buy through a browser) and use PayPal then you'd probably be OK .....

I use a prepaid card which offers a 'disposable' card option which has a single use only for all overseas (read chinese) transactions. Not that I do that many, but you can never be too careful.

I paid through my browser with my debit card. Aren't credit cards safer when in doubt?

I know two people who recently lost money on a fake Mountain Warehouse site using debit cards when a credit card company would have refunded them.

If a purchase on a CC is over £100, then S75 applies, not sure for lesser amounts!

Temu? Nah. It's bad enough selling one's soul to Amazon etc but to go direct to the wangliang? Nope. I think I'd like to keep an intermediary between me and Beijing.

Over here we have loads of mega sized Chinese mega tat shops. They're huge and sell everything.
Someone told me the new one is size of a footy pitch.
And the owner just bought the mega house opposite us.
4000m3 plot on 3 floors.
Underground parking for 10 cars.
It's even got a farking lift :obscene-birdiedoublered:

There's money in Chinese tat shops :obscene-birdiedoublered:

Using a debit card isn't the safest option. Either use a credit card, or if that doesn't appeal open a Revolut or Wise account. Revolut has the option of using a one time card as mentioned above.

I always use PayPal or Pen's credit card.
