Covid - newsworthy

Well my luck run out and after avoiding it I have caught Covid. Reckon I got it at the NFL last Sunday. Developed a cough and sore throat on Tuesday and assumed it was just a cold, went to work on Wednesday and only lasted the morning before feeling rough. Wednesday night I had a very high fever and aches and headache, felt like bad flu on Thursday and Friday morning. Did th test on Friday and it was positive in 90 seconds. Now it just feels like a bad cold so I consider myself lucky.

Don't the vaccines just stop you being very ill, we can still catch it and spread if we show no symptoms.

I thought it was a little bit preventative too?

I guess, logically, if your immune system can deal with the pesky little virus-y blighters better you can knock 'em on the head before it gets it's little feet under the table. Therefore it might get booted out before you become infectious. I imagine you could also have a bit of a tussle going on for a while so you don't get much in the way of symptoms but can still spread it. Dunno but, it seems logical - the vaccine helps you fight it but it's still a fight?

Well, yes. It certainly applies to flu but there was a bit of a 'narrative' going on about even if you feel fine, but test positive, don't mingle. It's the modern day Typhoid Mary! Not that many people are testing these days now you have to buy the test kits and nobody is going to test if they feel just a bit 'under the weather' are they? There are a few on here that appeared to have enough test kits to last a few years though (Wonder if the kits have a valid use period?).

I gave away the test kits I had back in the winter to some friends that run a chalet. I might have kept one box, but not sure!

I suppose I just figured people would become immune-ish (like flu) and we'd stop having to test/worry so much.

Like flu, it looks like there'll be a slightly different version and a tweaked vaccine every year ie it'll be flu/covid season. Don't know if we'll ever become 'immune' because of the sheer numbers of them viruses can mutate pretty quickly - they're evolution on amphetamine.

I saw a bloke yesterday with a tartan mask that had obviously seen better days. Seems to have become a sort of fashion item for people to make a statement that they're speshal [sic] in some way. Almost like a badge.

I see a few people wearing them here - generally when they have a cold or think they have a virus. Ok, most have been medical people who I've gone to see, but there have been some others (not recently as I've not been off the mountain for a few weeks!)

Personally, I do think that it's kind of cool that if someone has a cold or virus they are willing to wear a mask to try and reduce the chance of sharing whatever they have!!

What other reason(s) can you think of for wearing a self-evidently non-functional mask?

Well as you never asked him we'll never know. Maybe he's got psychological issues he's being treated for, maybe he's got respiratory issues, maybe he's just trying to not infect others.

But it's easier to make him out like a wanker and stroke your ego, so you go with that
