I'll stick my neck out and say podium. He really likes the circuit, he'll be on a full-fat GP23, he's already spent quality time on the bike, and he weighs the square root of fuck all.

As a wildcard you have to assume he'll have been asked not to take points off any of the factory riders.

Who knows if he'll listen or not :)

He hasn't ridden a MotoGP bike since 2018, apparently the ride height device can take weeks to learn. I'll give him last place if he manages to stay on.

It's very hard to predict. He's had a couple of goes on the GP bike and hasn't disgraced himself. It'll be very interesting to see how he does. With the tech changed so much since he last raced a Motogp in anger,a top ten finish would be impressive.

He was only 0.3s off pole on his first test ride. He seems to learn fast

Dunno really.. it's a bloody tough field and getting used to a very different bike takes time.

I didn't. When he was in MotoGP he never really achieved anything, so with such a long lay off from prototypes, and at his age, I'm hardly surprised to see him at the back.

I’d expect his time to improve and reduce the gap but whether it’s enough to make much of an impact who knows.

Back when Bayliss did his magic trick at Valencia, the MotoGP bikes were probably a lot closer to a production bike. Now they're so far removed from Proddy bikes, it's hard to jump on one and go fast straight away, unless you've come from the MotoGP circus where every class has rigid as hell bikes.

Electronics now play such a big role that it takes time to figure out what you need in order for the bike to work. That goes both ways, as you'd need to do the same if you were going to WSB.

Sadly, unless he's up there challenging for the podium, that'll be the door closed for any WSB rider to try and get into MotoGP.

Well he's doing poorly/OK, Toprak was way off the pace... there's no-one else you'd consider giving a GP ride to anyway. No-one has come into the series and done anything half decent for a long long time now.

I’m not really surprised at all he is that far back. Different tyres, completely different electronics and tech. The test riders are all normally near the tail end of the field (Dani was the exception) and they have way more time on the bikes than Alvaro.

If he gets in the points I would say he has achieved something but he won’t be happy with it

Interestingly his advantage in WSB with his tiny size isn’t working in MotoGP where aero is king and his top speeds are actually the slowest out of the entire field at 326 kph compared to speeds in the 333 kph by bigger riders like Pecco etc

Pretty much this, it would take time for someone to get the hang of things before performing as well as they are capable of doing, some are quicker to adapt and some take more time before being good in the end up.
