Well, it's an interesting topic but I don't think we should boil the ocean on it, just open up the kimono for a quick feel, grab the low hanging fruit and let the tough stuff go down the leg side.

We might workshop it, bring in a few stakeholders, run a few ideas up the flagpole and see who salutes.

Aksherly, I quite like the 'sunset' analogy for IT products. We used the term 20+ years ago. You stop marketing/selling a product, just maintain the installed base and let it slowly fade away. :D

Not if you're using the term as in the Urban Dictionary I don't! :o

I don't mind the 'sunset' one, it triggers an appropriate image for those not in I.T. for example, where using words like 'decommissioning' maybe don't have the same impact.

'Blue sky' means nothing to anyone though.

Never heard of the sunset analogy until just now, but it does make sense to me!

They're all cobblers, fortunately my management have gotten it through their skulls that I will not interact or respond to anything not conveyed in plain English.

We had project sunset for migrating old circuits off a telecoms system that was being turned off by BT. Reach out, touch base etc 🤬

I was going to add similar... I hate business jargon, but 'sunsetting' has been in common use for products/business since the 70s (apparently), and has been around since Roman times (again, apparently :) )

It's not just business that latches onto the ol' verbal garbage. The arts and crafts people are at it too. You don't 'paint' and 'draw' any more. You do 'mark making' and you 'take the line for a walk'. If you go to an exhibition eg of final year or postgraduate students work and read their blurb about the inspiration behind their work it reaches a whole new level of new age style bolleaux.

I had a a colleague who would become very animated, waving his arms around and gradually getting louder when embellishing a point.

It became known as testiculation. To wave ones arms around whilst talking utter bollocks.

He was not amused, but it did shut him up. :obscene-birdiedoublered:

My new-ish boss has decided that he's still in the military (which must have been decades ago now) and that somehow he can make me feel like some sort of battlefield-die-for-you-comrade by calling me 'brother' every 5 minutes in meetings. Weirdo.
