New 2024 Yamaha MT09

Post by tricol »

Quite an upgrade, bit more than I expected. I know how much you all love the looks of the MT range, check out that new headlight. It's gone full Iron Man.

Biggest draw for me is the lower bar position. Will be interesting to see what the SP brings, perhaps electronic suspension like the MT10SP.

I quite like the look of this! It's a definite improvement over the outgoing model.

I like that, especially the grey / cyan one. Headlamps don't need to be massive any more so I'm even OK with that but that's a very meagre pillion seat. I cant imagine sitting on that for 100 miles!

The cyan wheels were one of the reasons I fell for the MT10!!

They certainly missed an opportunity to bring out a metallic red and gold colour scheme, that's for sure...

The primary reason I never got an MT-09 was cos I couldn't get on with the ape hanger riding position! The MT-10 was bad enough, but MT-09 even worse...

Suspect that electronic suspension will stay on the MT-10SP only as that's the halo bike... The Ohlins shock and adjustable KYB forks on the 09SP are plenty good enough for most people once setup correctly anyway, certainly miles better than the crap on the non SP version.

I had an early MT-10 in the Grey with Yellow wheels...

Don't do it to yourself! Coloured wheels are a massive PITA and I actively avoid them on any bike now too... Even if they look amazing!

To top it off, Yamaha's paint is so low quality it doesn't like to stay attached to things at the best of times in my experience... At least my bike was in warranty when I discovered this mind!

Looks just like an XJ6 from the rear!

I don't see any improvements on previous model, and the term " Less is more" needs banning. 👎

Maybe the 2 part seat.

I was thinking they'd finally just said 'Sod it, make it look like a bit like an MT07, they sell well. Just make sure you change the headlight.' Maybe I'm a bit skewed in that respect.

Might well get one of these, and not just because of the looks, I reckon the ergos etc. might well suit me better. Reckon you could sneak a slightly lower bar on, too, from the looks of things.

Definitely going to have a go on one as soon as they're available.

Haha, nice way of describing it. I'm just in two minds about it. It's comfortable for me, I'm a lanky big eejit. But I found that on both track days it did feel a bit awkward at times. On the road it doesn't matter so much.

I like some of the new design features for the '24 model. New dash is nice, rear sub frame and rear light look nicer. I prefer my tank with the bigger intakes.

I gather from comments online there wont be an SP version. They have made some of the SP features standard on this new bike like cruise control. Suspension seems to be a middle ground. Pegs are back futher and a bit higher, new linkage for the rear, lower bars, all sound like it should feel better to ride.

Gen 2 is still the winner for me. I liked that MT-10ish headlight on those but not keen on the later ones even though I have no doubt they are a better headlight.

Horrible.

I’m obviously stuck in a time warp because most of these new bikes look genuinely hideous to me. It’s like a kid has been playing with Lego.

I'm not, I quite like many modern bikes, but I'm not a fan of this that's for sure.

I'll take the xsr900 you all hate instead please

The standard XSR looks better than the MT, but I’m old and don’t like these new bikes, so the more traditional less transformer type stuff is bound to appeal more to me.

I suppose it's one way to sell XSR900s, make the MT uglier.

WTF is going on at Yamaha's styling department.

Is it just me, but with the new headlight lower fairing in a contrasting colour rather than just black plastic, it's got something of the "Hannibal Lecter" look about it I'm afraid! :wtf:
