What amazed me was how stylish the old boy was even in his younger days -that's how to wear a tie 8-)

No. That's how somebody who doesn't normally wear a tie wears a tie. I was wondering what he'd done with the other end, he must have tucked it under his shirt and down amongst his... erm... gentleman's bits.
