Re: Rugby World Cup
I think I have a solution for the current malaise in rugby.
Limiting the amount of substitutions to 4. Bench of 8, but only half to be used. That way, players will have to be fitter and play smarter to last 80 mins.
Looking at the SA bench for today, if the NZ back row get hold of the half backs, they're screwed.

You forgot LEKKER. Seems to be the most important of words in that language.the_priest wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 2:26 pmThat is entirely plausible. Vat Kant Wit Man Biltong Nartjie Boerewors Bier. My Afrikaans is rather rusty now.

Trying to decide who to support.
I think It might have to be the All Blacks. I've danced with ten-foot pygmies in a Montezuma hall, I've met the King of China and a working Yorkshire miner, but I've never met a nice South African!

Re: Rugby World Cup
Why allow subs at all? Used to need blood injury or a doctor signing off that the player could not continue before a replacement was allowed. Or even further back, no replacements, period.Demannu wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 2:05 pm I think I have a solution for the current malaise in rugby.

This SA team are a world away from the dirty buggers of 15 years ago, Kolisi in particular seems like a decent human being. NZ are hard to like though, they seem far too ready to resort to blatant unsporting behaviour.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 8:02 pm Trying to decide who to support.

Because the pace and power of the game has changed since you were taking cold showers in prep school. However changing your pack as a tactic means you have 16 Neanderthals who can't manage an 80 minute game.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 8:21 pmWhy allow subs at all? Possibly limiting subs would create a conumdrum for the tacticians and possibly create more opportunity for scores as players tired towards the latter stages of a game.
Just a thought.

Re: Rugby World Cup
I sent a whingy text to a mate just before half time (not the Kiwi, I'm not texting him for months! Even if they win I'll leave it a day or so!!) to complain cos it really isn't the match I had expected/wanted.
His reply has made me stop whinging!! I'm still miffed at the score so far but -
The Kiwi's comment on the first yellow card - Barnes being a cunt of a ref straight away

The Kiwi always complains about the refs, but particularly about this one!! I can't remember why he got so pissed off with him, but it's being going on a lot of years!!

Re: Rugby World Cup
Two equally matched sides, cup final - there's never going to be too many tries. If NZ had taken the penalty points in the second half instead of going for the corner perhaps they would have won...petrolpete wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 9:06 pmI think kolbe has been amazing and Pollard has been successfull with the kicks. Re: Rugby World Cup
Agreed two evenly matched sides would have been nicer for more trys at least it was not too scrappy. I thought the ref did a good job of keeping the game going. Well done to two great sides.
