Re: In todays news...
They’ll be going at it until the end of time, unless and until some time after the Palestinians change their objectives.
Right or wrong, they are not going to drive the Israelis into the sea, or any sentimental old shit like that.

If I were a teenage Palestinian living in Gaza I would probably be joining Hamas. If you have no hope and nothing to lose you will kick off, the worst they can do is end a lifetime of misery.

Of course you know what the point being made is but for the avoidance of doubt here's a link that should help to obviate your professed ignorance of the origins of the Israeli-Palestinan conflict which after the 1949 war resulted in the displacement of about 750,000 Palestinians from what they saw as their own land.dern wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 10:12 pmThat's something we know followed by a rhetorical question. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict dates back to the end of the nineteenth century. In 1947, the United Nations adopted Resolution 181, known as the Partition Plan, which sought to divide the British Mandate of Palestine into Arab and Jewish states. On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was created, sparking the first Arab-Israeli War. The war ended in 1949 with Israel’s victory, but 750,000 Palestinians were displaced, and the territory was divided into 3 parts: the State of Israel, the West Bank (of the Jordan River), and the Gaza Strip.

Their history of sympathy to the Axis didn’t help the Palestinians either.

Facts are easy. Finding a solution to the problem is much more difficult. And scoring points is not making progress to a solution.

I find it odd and distasteful that some people rush into making excuses for what those utterly wretched pigs from Gaza did on Saturday.

I don't disagree, but I find it equally distasteful that Israel has been mistreating Palestinians as a deliberate policy for decades. The Jewish extreme right, who basically control Israel's goverment, seem to think the Holocaust, or their 'chosen people' status, justifies them in using tactics that the Nazis would be proud of.
Two wrongs do not make a right.

This recent unpleasantness won’t have a leftward influence upon voting patterns in Israel.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 1:42 pmI don't disagree, but I find it equally distasteful that Israel has been mistreating Palestinians as a deliberate policy for decades. Re: In todays news...
I totally agree, but it doesn't make the Israeli position morally right. Both sides are wrong, both sides need to talk, and compromise. Or both sides will end up counting dead in 10s or 100s of 000s.JackyJoll wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 1:55 pmThis recent unpleasantness won’t have a leftward influence upon voting patterns in Israel.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 1:42 pmI don't disagree, but I find it equally distasteful that Israel has been mistreating Palestinians as a deliberate policy for decades. Yes, but there’s no sign that they want to.
Right now, I expect many Israelis see being nice to the Palestinians as detrimental to themselves.

I expect they do. They have been believing they are 'right' since 1949. I don't condone the Palestinian violence, I do understand it. As long as both sides stand firm people will die.

They have been believing the Palestinians will try to kill them all and I think they have been right in that belief.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 2:40 pmI expect they do. The Palestinians have been dealt a poor hand and they are playing it just about as badly as possible.

I see that Israel now intends to cut off all supplies of food, medicine, etc to 2.3 million people, most of whom have no way to leave even if someone else offered them a home. Remind you of the Nazis?
