Remember the Castrol TV advert with the oil dripping down the side of the can in between the stripes?

Not where I live. Bikes get fresh oil & filter every 2 years or 3000 miles.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Sun Oct 01, 2023 7:38 pm I get that oil sat in an engine could absorb moisture in the air and oil does 'age' without being used.
But then, surely when oil gets up to 100c the water content just boils off out of the crank case vent?

I've just realised I've got to change the oil in the Triumph! So may just have to do just that tomorrow afternoon once back from the school visit. Have the filter and all that as well! Not changed it in my ownership yet as it had just had a full service and I could see it was clean back then. But it has been sitting a lot with only a couple of longer rides. When commuting I changed the oil in whatever bike I had every 3000 miles with filter.

Have you got the service indicator showing on the GS?Dodgy69 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 8:28 pm Got my posh oil for the MT delivered today, not sure when I'll change it yet, soon probably. Also GS oil coming.

I have (on time not milage). Google says you need a gizmo to plug into the ODBII port to turn it off, rather than just holding down clock buttons like on older bikes/cars.

Yes, I've got the gizmo you mention, your welcome to pop around and we can reset it. I forgot, but I changed GS oil in March. It's done a few miles but I won't change it until next march.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 8:43 pmHave you got the service indicator showing on the GS?Dodgy69 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 8:28 pm Got my posh oil for the MT delivered today, not sure when I'll change it yet, soon probably. Gizmo worked on 2 older GSs aswel.
MT will get done as the 2 year warranty has finished so I'll be doing it now.

I've got a Bluetooth ODB2 gizmo that might work, I just need an adapter to make it fit the BMW plug.
When I had a Triumph it had a normal full sized ODB2 socket, I dunno why BMW have to be different.

Re: Oil change regardless..🤷🏻♂️
Bloody Hell. Duckhams. That brings back some memories for me.
Back in the very early 80s, I had an old '72 HD 1200 Shovelhead. Used Duckhams monogrades in that. 50 in summer and 30 or 40 in winter. (Can't remember).
Later in the 80s, I was the proud owner of a Ducati 900 Darmah, which also required monograde oil. Of course I bought Duckhams for that.
I doubt if anyone on here knew the place, but there was an old fashioned Brit motorcycle parts shop in Sutton, Surrey, called W.F. Guiver, which of course closed down many, many years ago.
The shop was run by a lovely bloke called Vern Havers, who I understand used to do grasstrack riding. The bloke was a font of all knowledge concerning old Brit bikes, and was able to give proper advice, and supply the required parts, to a know-nothing young greaser concerning a BSA 250 Starfire that I once had the misfortune to own in the very early 70s. He also sold Duckhams. Thus when I had the HD and the Ducati, it was there that I went for my oil.
Ah......Memories.
