Most of what I ride locally, a short travel FS or HT is faster than the Enduro Rigs people ride. It’s only places like the Peaks or Dartmoor that the extra travel helps(mind you the Curtis took to Dartmoor as a rowdy HT, line choice became important and fillings got rattled out a couple of times).
The Privateer is definitely over bikes for the South Downs- great for Morzine ( and BPW and others)
Downcountry bikes do seem to be the beat universal rides

My thoughts are that if i go to Morzine next year i'd just take the GT Fury or whatever spare bike we own at the time. But the odds are it'd certainly be a bouncy one i'd have as an option.
It's a tricky one as always with bikes as 2 bikes are always better and less compromised than any 1 bike.
I'll admit though, it's given me a re-think potentially

Yeah i hear you, but i'm not sure yet if the Fury stays as it has next to fuck all in terms of use/function. It's not moved since the Session arrived.
Maybe i need to try the Fury first lol.
Which would be the sensible route.
However, I realise that has no place in the "Weeksy Grand Scheme of biking, motorbiking and van buying"
LOL the Grand Scheme has been fairly static lately... The van has been here for a year, motorbikes don't exist and the boy being a DH racer is a staple of the logic/plan.
There are also some other bits of crazy though and another potential incoming bike for him, but that's bringing a whole new level of insanity in itself
Was chatting with Crust and i'm gonna shoot and borrow his Fuel later, he's got an ML (the PB one is a L) and alloy not carbon, but essentially it's the same bike.. So if i can get out and test it tomorrow afternoon, it'll help firm up any decision before Friday.
Wait until we get to any potential house move - that is going to kick any past purchases shenanigans into a bucket!
With my experience of Trek ( i.e. one) they seem to come up smaller than other brands. The fact that it looks like a monster truck, belies the fact that my XL is sort of just largish

Yeah my previous one (and this new potential one) is an L and a 475mm reach
House moves.... jeepers... lets not go there just yet ! not sure i can cope.
Not sure we will be able to !!
well it's not for a while until at least June when his exams are over... so don't worry too much yet
Where you looking at? Somewhere with decent geology I hope (ie no chalk).
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."

YEah that's correct mate, Shropshire, N Wales, S Wales... but there's 100,000,000 things to consider in this discussion first. Not least of which is finances but also riding/racing/life discussions and decisions. It's a massive leap/step for what's little more than a vague possibility at the moment.
Went over to @crust last night and stole his Fuel EX8 for a day or 2. His is the ML, the one i'm dealing with is an L (i've had the L previously) and took his to the woods this morning for a pre-work/breakfast run or 3.. Really enjoyed it once i'd got it set up for my preferences and i'd swear it rolls quicker than the Slayer. Either way though, i'm happy after riding it that i'll get on the 9.8 and enjoy it
