Anyone raced with CRMC?

Post by KungFooBob »

Am I correct in thinking they don't allow wets or warmers (this is a good thing imho)?

I'm seriously tempted by the (Post Classic) Junior Production Class, anyone raced it?

Definitely don't allow tyre warmers, not sure about the were, I know a few people who race with them, mostly Superstocks, but I can probably find out for you, my friend is trying to convince me to race my YPVS with them next year.

I'm not saying the good old days were better, but we never used warmers in the 80s. The tyres just worked from cold . Flat out from first lap in any conditions.
I assume that everybody will just use the right tyres ?

I've never raced in a class that uses warmers.

They're at least 90% after the sighting lap if you push it a bit.

Good luck finding one, you might get away with buying an FZ400 and fitting an XJ600 engine (this how Yamaha made the FZ600)

FZ750s would be cheap to race if CRMC would allow the 1987 onwards bikes to race, the early ones have shot up in value because of this stupid rule, you can put all the engine internals of a late FZ in early crankcases.

There's a few ready made FZ600 race bikes about. The class is 99.9% FZ600's.

When I went to Snetterton last year the only bikes in that class that weren't FZs were a GPZ550 and a GSX550

There were a lot of really slow people in that class, one of whom had to have a little lie down in the middle of the track before getting up when he realized the marshalls weren't going to rush out with a stretcher.

Apparently a few years back there were a couple of Paso's too.

I think the YPVS is eligible for that class.

I was at Brands yesterday. The Tyre choice for all was wets. There were 2 Fz600s and there were on am 22's, so I think you could be right

I've found the regs.

Not wets. No warmers.

For the Proddy class... no engine tuning, original forks, frame and swingarm. Stock shaped body work. OEM wheels. Must have a tail light lens!

You can only change the rear shock and fork springs/spacers.

You can fit an XJ/FJ 600 engine... cos it's the same as the FZ, but they're more readily available.

"No Engine Tuning"
Well yes , but If it were me , I'd be spending time and money getting it as perfect as it could be.

Indeed.

There's the argument that Blueprinting isn't tuning, just ensuring everything is 'exactly' as manufacturers specifications.

The top runners in the ThunderSport 500 will buy half a dozen CB500 engines and pick the best bits from each one to build a perfect engine, they're still within the rules as they've not removed or added any metal.

Saying that, I've been watching FZ600's racing on youtube and even the leaders are puffing out large blue smoke clouds on the down changes.

They did that even on the road. I had to put rings in mine.

I loves a 400, might be an excuse to buy another FZR.

Now that is interesting, and even better my FZR has just gone up in value, by the way you can cheat and get the standard FZR CDI modified to the same spec as the race one (apparently gives another 5bhp) and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Jap import FZRs will have to have the speedo still connected if you have to run the stock CDI, otherwise they won't rev beyond 12000 rpm, mine has a derestrictor box fitted that removes the rev limiter altogether, mine makes power to at least 15000 rpm.

Just had another look at the rules - ignition system free from restriction, holy crap, FZRs are clean up.

I like the idea of that class as I'd love to race a 90's 400 (I had loads of them on the road) but couldn't didn't like the idea/cost of a competitive tune. There's no engine tuning allowed. It does say you can modify the airbox tho and I remember that someone made ram-air kits for the FZR.

Bemsee have a similar sub-class in the Formula 400 called Sub64 which has a 64 bhp limit.
