Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
Another Loakes fan here - have a couple of pairs of their shoes, fit perfectly from day 1 and comfortable despite the sturdy construction.
On the look out for a new pair of boots - currently have Barbour Chukka for work duties but may just buy Loakes as know they will last.....

My 1880's came from the factory shop, they were only £200!
Half price, and I can't see anything about them that suggests they're seconds.

I've got Grenson boots but I don't think they're as nice as Loake.v8-powered wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 4:26 pm Another Loakes fan here - have a couple of pairs of their shoes, fit perfectly from day 1 and comfortable despite the sturdy construction.

I suppose it depends on what style you want, I like desert boots and the Grenson and Alt-Berg desert boots are good.

I've got 1 pair of shoes hidden away in the "if we go to UK for wedding" box.
2 pairs of walking trainers
Multiple pairs of sandals and flip flops.

For daily casual (but you'll get away with them with a suit) then it's Loake for me, these are the four pairs I said I keep out as daily wearers.
Chukka / Desert are my usual work style however I walk a fair bit, so knock the heels out quickly but to be fair to Barbour I've got about a year out of a pair of theirs and were only about £125.

I ran around various deserts in Alt-bergs and they lasted very well, plus they looked cool with a pair of jeans, if that's a look you like.v8-powered wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 4:37 pm

(I even did a track day in them when I forgot my boots and no one mentioned them )
They were made to measure like this (but not exactly these, they don't make the ones I had anymore, but these are close enough) - https://www.altberg.co.uk/boots/made-to ... -boot-mk31

Oh and if we're talking about all day long comfy boots, then I bought a pair of these a few weeks ago and I can wear them round the clock, walk, run, sit, climb, anything, they're all day long comfortable.

Ooh! Factory shop. Didn't know they had one - and you can buy on line.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 4:27 pm My 1880's came from the factory shop, they were only £200!

I think the Dainite soled brogues I got must be 'Chester'.
I'll have to take a pic of my shoe 'stash'.

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
For years I was a Meindl fan. Then something happened, I think the next generation took over and design/quality took a dive so I moved to Scarpa and tried various others. Currently finding Oboz Sawtooth range suit me quite well...worn a pair completely out but, of course, you can't really repair them Boots are a bit odd when you get into it. You kind of expect German boots to be broad and Italian ones to be a bit narrower, then you find, in the outdoor world, there aren't that many companies involved in Europe, so 'Italian' boots are really German.
(Re the outdoor world, I used Arcteryx stuff when they were specialists, for things like rucsacs etc....then they took the dollar - because, as they explained, they needed investment to grow, and are now fa£hion. Pod used to make bomb-proof rucsacs, (when the couple that made them weren't clambering up mountains), in Sheffield. Now? It's all 'Made in China'. You just have to find people making good stuff before they get mopped up and absorbed into the 'outdoor business').

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
Wish they did the same in women's shoes I can fit in a size 4 if the boot is wide enough - had a pair of bike boots in a size 4 cos they were lovely and wide across the toe!! I have stupidly narrow ankles but wide across the front of my foot/toes
In general I have to buy a size 6 in womens shoes Sometimes find a wide fit that I can buy a 5.5

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
I've got a pair of Timberland City Groove Chelsea boots, they're what I wear 90% of the time that I'm not at work, had them three years and they're still going strong. They're not as 'chavvy' and bulky as normal Timberlands (the logo is pretty well hidden too) and are by far the most comfortable boot's I've ever owned.v8-powered wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 4:26 pm Another Loakes fan here - have a couple of pairs of their shoes, fit perfectly from day 1 and comfortable despite the sturdy construction.

I need to try again cos PayPal wouldn't accept the card I tried (was in the UK, so it might have spazzed out because of location??!!)
