Reversing prang
I’m fully comp’ on all my vehicles. That covers me to drive other stuff too.
Reversing wife’s car off drive yesterday and rolled straight into a car slowly driving down the road. Poor obs, no excuse but tired.
Scuffs to the bumper of my wife’s car ( disco sport) and some dents and scuffs to the rear panel of the other car ( corsa).
My insurance company have said I’m only insured for 3rd party f&t so have to claim through my wife’s insurance. Does that sound right? I was driving ..
Thanks for any help

I think that to fully benefit from her insurance you would need to be a named driver on her policy. But check.

Yes, you are only insured TP only on other vehicles you drive. IE, the TP will be able to claim off your wifes insurance but you won't be able to. I'm not sure your wife will be able to claim either.....?
Why aren't you a named driver on the policy..... ?

Re: Reversing prang
As wheelnut says, your policy normally only covers you for third party when driving someone else's vehicle, ie the legal minimum for driving on UK roads.
Not relevant in docca's case but it's worth anyone doing this to check what their policy actually covers. Third party cover on a vehicle owned by another person isn't valid when travelling abroad. Also, I'm not sure about cars, but some motorcycle policies don't permit it for using a spouse's vehicle (and, perhaps, those of other close family members), the very people you'd normally be borrowing from. Additionally, of course, the vehicle must be insured by the registered keeper.

Re: Reversing prang
I know a couple of people who've been caught out by the TPO thing on the "driving other peoples car" cover. To get full comp cover on any car you need a way more expensive policy. The kind of thing traders etc have.
I'd be surpirsed if you can claim through your wife's cover....she wasn't driving. Unless you're a named driver on her policy?

Are you looking to claim for the scuffed disco? If its the corsa dents, they are the TP.Docca wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 9:13 am I’m fully comp’ on all my vehicles. That covers me to drive other stuff too.

The wife and I are named drivers on each others policy for just this reason. We're also named drivers on our kids cars as it bring their policy prices down by around £100 each for our names.

Re: Reversing prang
Unfortunately that does seem correct - it will also affect no claims discount, and you have to take into account any excesses you agreed to.
May be worth funding it without using insurance...
My last insurance claim ( white van hit me on a roundabout) became a nightmare - two ambulance chaser law forms got involved. Took a year and a bit before court was even mentioned - and then it snowballed !

Filly's car was tail-ended. Other ins co [eventually] coughed up (Direct Line were good, just the other co wouldn't pay them!). Not her fault at all. But because she has been *involved* in a crash an is named on my policy - mine was hiked!?!?

Hoping for plain sailing.
