Well...I've been in the land of woollybacks and wellies for nearly a week now and my findings of the new 20mph limit adherence are...

Nobody GAF... Folk still treat like a 30. Today, following a school bus, keeping to a steadyish 30 in a 20. So I think that's what I'll do, well maybe 35.

Local council flier through my door today: "would you support a 20mph speed limit in your local area?".

No.

Because: if you're the kind of person who drives at 30mph on these residential, speed bump covered streets with loads of pedestrians etc. you're the kind of person who DGAF about a posted speed limit Waste of money IMO.

Undue care and attention from the motorist or pedestrian I'd imagine causes most incidents. Dangerous/speeding would be secondary I reckon. No stats required.

This is in the news again after locals are complaining it makes journeys much longer.

The Welsh government said the change would only add a minute to average journey times but in this part of the Rhondda, where car is king, people argue journeys are taking longer.

Doesn't necessarily mean the average car journey is/was 2 mins does it? It just means you spend more time driving at 20 than at 30, but for example you might spend most of the time driving at 70....

On my street f'r'instance it's about 500m of 20mph road then you're on to the 70mph grids. You could make the limit in the present 20mph zones 5mph and not have a major impact on my journey times

They're not the only tool* - but they're the easiest, quickest thing to implement from a roads-infrastructure point of view, and the easiest to 'police'.

Had my first bimble over the border today since this sillyness came in and from Wales being my go to weekend riding destination it has now dropped a long way off the list.

It's just so badly implemented with no obvious rhyme or reason, with the limit dropping and raising seemingly at random and with very little to no signage.

I think that's the reason why so many people here have had an issue with it all. I don't think anyone would argue with 20' outside schools, playgrounds, hospitals etc. But it makes no sense that they've just thrown them up pretty much everywhere. And subsequently, surrounding speed limits have had to drop as well, so there's also more 30/40/50 speed restrictions on roads that just don't require them.
Not sure if I said on here or elsewhere, my commute used to have 5 limit changes in 12 miles, now, 15 changes. So, I now travel further in distance using bigger roads, less changes, no 20's and takes me no longer time wise. But, I'm travelling further. Bonkers.

A lot of London is 20mph now. It is seriously enforced by the Met police too. Fooked if I know how they are resourcing it with all the other problems in London and a lack of KSi stats to back it up too apprently?

I fell foul of it last year, copping a 42 in a 20 nicking which cost me £800 and 6 points! Anyway, i'll answer to myself for that one, but, as i'm so paranoid about getting any more points, i stick to it religiously and TBH I find myself driving under 30mph when local now.

Absolutely! My colleagues, who live in London, were pretty furious when I told them how many police are out on speed patrols. They were angry the Met were focusing on motorists, when they have no response to anti social behaviour, shoplifting, drugs outside schools etc. I did say they are probably traffic police, but so many Londoners are just too pissed off with the met overall to hear anything.
