Namaste.
The only two cars I've/we've really wanted were an MX-5 with pop up headlights and a breadvan Civic Type-R. Both were actually Mrs. D's cars on paper but we both drove 'em . I can safely say both were brilliant and if it weren't for the fact both were "taken"* from us we'd still have 'em.

*MX-5 had terminal rear arch rust, depsite being a Jap import with loads of undersealing and several rounds of welding. Civic was written off when someone ploughed into it while it was parked outside our house :(

About 20 years ago I rode my mates 916 a few times as he was racing & stopped riding on the road but wanted me to ride the bike every few weeks to keep it in running order.I prefered my FZ750,still have the FZ,never rode a Ducati since...

I was out with a mate who was on PB's long term test 999, he let me do maybe 10 miles on it and that was enough, I was happy to get back on my auld Blade.

I'm sure it was great on track, but as a road bike it was far too focused*

*Uncomfortable.

I also got to ride the K5 GSXR1000, man that was a proper weapon.

Not so much a specific bike, but a style of bike & it's a Guzzi cafe racer,Tonti frame, with spoked wheels, polished alloy tank & big block motor. To my eye's they still look 'right'
I had a soft spot for the 650 Transalp as a go anywhere bike, but these days they're to long in the tooth & I don't see me crossing the Sahara anytime soon,I also liked the YZF750 but never bought one.
Even when they were new I realsied that me behind the bars of a Fireblade or 4XV R1 was probably not the wisest of decisisions so I never rode them.

Unlike some of you, I don't change my bike as often as my underpants!
However, I have ridden a considerable number of other people's bikes, and rarely do they give me the 'fizz'. Original R1 did, but if I had owned one I'd have been banned or deaded v quickly.
Only bike I'd wish I'd bought was an early fireblade
, as at the time it was just phenominal.
Done the 'bought a dream bike of my youth' though, what a mistake!

My first brand new bike was a 1986 GSXR750 , I really wanted the RG500 which i think was £100 cheaper but i had read
articles on the RG500 having reliability issues. So i went with my head rather than heart and bought the GSXR.
I never regretted it and never really wanted the RG since strangely enough.

Ducati superbike - But will never happen due to comfort and upkeep cost.

TL1000 - Always wanted one but then rode my mates and compared to my Blade it was a bit plop, noise aside. Still kinda want one though.

RSV1000 - Either Gen 1 or 2. I like both. But the resetting clocks, bubbly tanks, battery faffing put me off.

SV650 - Dunno why just fancy one as a knock about bike. Have visions of buying one and stripping it back so it weighs less kind of like a less extreme JHS race bike for the road.

SP1/2 - Rode a mates one and loved it, but I'd never ride it much as uncomfy and tend to be expensive now for high mileage bikes. Should of bought Potter's years ago.

I really wanted an SS tuned Rickman framed Z1,back in the day. Sadly funds never stretched that far and time passed. Everything else I wanted I managed to buy over the years.

Kawasaki triples always held a strong allure too,but somehow I never bought one. I wish I had when they were cheap!

The triple itch was scratched this year,so I'm kinda sated for now.

I always liked the look of those, but I heard they weren't very good unless you threw crazy money at the race kit - and even then a lot of people put a 1000 EXUP engine in.
They're only about 100bhp stock and do need the race kit to make them fast, the race kit cost more than the bike, but they're very pretty. I suspect riding one would be much the same experience as riding an OW01, realising that I'm not good enough to make use of the handling and that I'm better off with a road bike.

I had the 1985 GSXR750 (not new), a mate had 2 RG500s, I had a spin on one of them, the GSXR is a better bike, the RG I rode later destroyed it's primary drive gears and he couldn't get replacements for them, he stopped riding the other RG because he was afraid it would do the same.

Just remembered another mate has an RG500, I don't know if he's ever ridden it, he's got 3 or 4 Bimotas he hardly rides and prefers his Moriwaki SP2 (which has constant electrical problems)

I nearly did the same with an RC45 3yrs ago... For £26k...

Annoyingly, if I had done, I'd be quids in as they're £35k starting price now!

My dream bike too! My first bike was an NC35, but been obsessed with V4's and in particular Honda ever since I first saw an RC30 in the Tamiya catalogue as a child...

I've owned quite a few other iconic bikes to be fair... Ducati 748SP, KTM RC8, Gen1 RSV, Gen1 Tuono Ltd (Dark edition as they're sometimes called), Blackbird...

Gen1 V-Twin Aprilia's are generally pretty solid, don't have the same clock and stator issues that early Gen2's have (was fixed from mid-late 06 on so later Gen2's are OK too, but will need checking when buying as many of these bikes were late registered so could be that you found an 05 bike but wasn't registered til 2007 in some cases). Plastic tank issues a PITA though mind...

Agree on the SV650 thing. Rode a stock new one as a loan bike last year for a few hours, god it was insipid! But I know there's a great chassis and a pretty potent bike in there if it's breathed upon in the right areas, and would be quite a focussed corner carving tool that could upset quite a lot of people on more serious machinery done right... Also, they're peanuts to buy and maintain, so you could ride it like you stole it and not worry too much!

I do recall wanting a Ducati 888 SP3 so badly it hurt, but the new price (in 1990) of £14,500 put it out of reach, so I bought a new but old stock 851 off Sports Motorcycles for £8k instead. It didn't stop the pain entirely, but numbed it somewhat. Fast forward a year or so and I traded the 851 in against a secondhand SP3 that had done only 1400 kms and had chicken strips a mile wide. I got £7.5k for the 851 and the price of the SP3 was £12,500, so I figured it was affordable. I put the £5k difference on the company credit card and rode off a very happy boy.

Always liked well-dressed bikes, the Honda Pacific Coast looked gorgeous (although didn't get rated highly) and then the Deauville. Settled for a VFR in the end, probably the best option.

Have you ridden one?

I've only ever seen them, they're not very big, oddly, about the size as a contemporary 1000, but they always look big and heavy in photos.

DEFINITELY winning this thread so far!

I remember my Dad's mate turning up one evening at our house on a loaner 851 he'd borrowed for a weekend when I was about 12, then a few weeks later he turned up on a brand new 888SP4 that he'd just bought... No half measures!

That was the moment that I really bit the bug for motorbikes!
