Re: Mortgages and house moves...
Should be able to transfer current rate over to new property but the additional sum will be at a higher rate, basically end up with 2 mortgages running on same property.
Speak to you IFA / lender and see what they can do.....

Got to agree with you there!
We have a big house and only 3 of us living in it now, could make a good few quid renting rooms but would end up in murder!

We looked in to doing a similar thing as I work 100% remote and the tax is a pain if you're being paid in the UK. It's doable but complex. I seem to recall that you get taxed in the UK, then again in France and then you claim back the tax from the UK.weeksy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 10:46 amI could sit there and it wouldn't change how i work in the slightest.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 10:44 am I'd buy that tomorrow if I had some way or earning a wage while sat by the pool!
Yesterday was doing work on servers in Frankfurt, today is Amsterdam... tomorrow is UK, but i won't be going to site... i don't go to site these days.

Re: Mortgages and house moves...
yeah it's still not for me... Whilst i'd happily have mates over, i don't want/need others. I just don't like the idea at all, even if it brought in extra income.Yorick wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 10:57 amWe have the whole bottom floor apartment and they have their own patio in quiet part of gardenv8-powered wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 10:55 amGot to agree with you there!

Company i work for has offices in France, relocation and being paid/change to in-country stuff is fairly common.dern wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 11:01 amWe looked in to doing a similar thing as I work 100% remote and the tax is a pain if you're being paid in the UK. Re: Mortgages and house moves...
I get irritated by the people in our BTL and that's 30 miles away and I havent been there for 6 yearsYorick wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 10:57 amWe have the whole bottom floor apartment and they have their own patio in quiet part of gardenv8-powered wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 10:55 amGot to agree with you there!

We even have 2 front doors in out current home (previous owner was a hospital consultant surgeon and had a home office with a separate entrance) but even then I couldn't deal with knowing people were here.
Friends have a big house locally and have a detached double width and depth garage with an apartment built above, they do very well on AirBnB with that. Works well for some people, maybe me and the missus are just anti-social arses?

We're a mile from town, so the clientèle we get want a quiet place. And they're on holiday, so generally happy.v8-powered wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 11:04 amI get irritated by the people in our BTL and that's 30 miles away and I havent been there for 6 yearsYorick wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 10:57 amWe have the whole bottom floor apartment and they have their own patio in quiet part of gardenv8-powered wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 10:55 am

Only had 1 bad set in 7 years.
It's a nice easy £1,500 a month. Our only income till my pension kicks in.

LOL we live 50m from that house now.... The flood was caused by a road repair... OK, so it would've been crazy wet yes, but it should never have flooded and hasn't since they repaired the work done.

Sister in Law bought a 5 acre water meadow (aka a field with a pretty stream) next to their house. Then were surprised one morning to find a 5 acre lake!

I had this vague memory of encroaching flood waters and pumps being set up and things getting worrying etc.

Re: Mortgages and house moves...
It was yes, but as i say, it was because a company laying lines in the road had blocked the main drain with rubble, so the water backed up, but it too a while to diagnose as there was a lot of flooding going on in all areas.Taipan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 2:15 pmI had this vague memory of encroaching flood waters and pumps being set up and things getting worrying etc.

So, where to? I'm guessing not another 50m down the road.
Somewhere nearer BPW?

Re: Mortgages and house moves...
Location is either near FoD, Hopton Castle, Abergavenny. It would have to be somewhere 'quiet' for me... But somewhere near humans for Mrs Weeksy. I'm not sure the place/location we both would like actually exists, unless we had 2 housesCount Steer wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 2:27 pmSo, where to? I'm guessing not another 50m down the road.

I guess something north of Chepstow so she could get on the M4 would likely be the best location as it would work for me, her and the boy.
