First Person Around The World On An Electric Bike
Well this feels weird, posting in the cycling bit.
Eight years ago I went on a Pyrenees motorcycling trip organised by Nick Sanders MBE and since then we've kept in contact and I often drop in to see him and his wife, Dr Caroline, at their home tucked away in a quiet valley near Machynlleth, Wales. I say I go to see them but what actually happens is I spend most of my time gossiping and pottering around with Caroline while Nick flits about, always busy organising his next adventure.
At sixty-five years young he's at it again, his eleventh trip around the globe and an attempt at a world record - the first person to circumnavigate the world on an electric bicycle. I had a walk around the Yamaha Wabash that he's doing it on while I was there last week and said "Oh, that's nice" as I really don't know anything about cycles or electric bikes - it is a greyish/blue colour - I remember that much. I also checked out the table where he had laid out everything that he was taking which amounted to a lot of camera equipment and not much else. I made the mistake of asking where his other pair of pants were He has to do this by April as he's holding a festival in May so there's no taking any time off - he is on a strict and punishing schedule.
I've become aware in the years that I've known him how hard it is to get publicity with so many younger people, "influencers", traveling with their Google Maps and Instagram and cameras on their iPhones but Nick is an original, old school adventurer and writer. I've never failed to be inspired by his continued energy to come up with new ideas and get sponsorship deals.
So, I'm here, asking you to give him a bit of support by way of likes and comments. There's a link below to his website and he'll be posting short videos and keeping everyone updated on there and on Instagram. It means a lot to him, he reads all his comments and it really does help to keep him going.
I'll use this post to share a few of his videos and updates when they come in.

Yes, he is. His wife is going out to meet him twice during the trip.

Re: First Person Around The World On An Electric Bike
While the world has been turning and new wars started, Nick has made it to the middle of the Saudi desert. Going by the location tracking he made it through Israel hours before war broke out. He seems to be hitting a wall and his latest blog has unusual typos. He is wondering why he started this and what it's all for. I guess it's because it's all he has ever done and doesn't know how to do anything else.
If you get a chance, please check out his blog and send a like or comment - it would mean a lot to him right now.

He's still at it and has made an Episode 1 video. I've been following him on insta and occasionally read his blog. I think he hit some kind of mental wall a month ago because his blog got a bit wacky, but he seems to have recovered.
Very inspiring stuff.
