Good morning everyone
I have a Husqvarna 701 Enduro 2016
It has the 21” fr and 18” Rr off road wheel set on it of course and also the forks with calliper mount set for the smaller 300mm front brake disc.
I’m currently having some 17” wheels built and trying to get the rest of parts required ready for when I have the wheel set turn up.
My concern/issue is the front brake.
Ideally I’d like to be able to just swap over the wheel sets when required, but I’m concerned that the 300mm disc won’t be up to the job for the SM wheels and higher tarmac speeds.
I was considering the Moto-Master front Calliper upgrade and bracket, plus the required racing front brake disc at 320mm.
My issue with this seems to be that they don’t make a 320mm disc that is ABS compatible.
I’m an older rider so have had many bikes without ABS so I am considering this, but I’m not 100% set on the idea or sure that MOT time would be an issue with the ABS days lights/warnings and all.
Has anyone done a similar swap with these bikes and managed it a different way?

Can you find out the increase in braking force provided by the extra 20mm ?
I had a KTM525 with just a standard MX disc. Sure when I upgraded it got better, but it was fine as was ?

Gosh, not sure
I am tempted to just put a standard disc on (or maybe Moto-Master upgraded 300mm disc) and see how it stops first.
At least I’d be able to swap back and forth if required

It's just a sensor isn't it? If an adapter isn't available you could get one 3d printed.

The suppling dealer as stating that it is not compatible with the ABS ring as the MM calliper requires the racing brake disc and as such doesn’t require abs for racing.

A 300mm disc will be more than capable of stopping the bike, the 320 will feel sharper, but won't make much difference to actually stopping the bike, a stickier front tyre would make more difference to stopping distance.

Here’s the info from Suplier :-
the 300mm disc has no mention of SM wheels only the 320mm so it might work but cant guarantee it sorry
and you would have to use it with the MM caliper also
and can only do the 320 if take off the ABS is the ring that is the issue as no where to mount it

Yes this is my thinking to be fair and I would prefer to be able to swap back and forth with the standard wheel set which won’t be able to be done if I swap the calliper and disc size.
I wonder if I can get an updated disc and pad set in a 300mm size and then see how we go with that.

As has been mentioned, a 300mm will be fine. Perhaps some different pads for sm use.
My old 610 would stoppie with the 260mm disc on, and the 320 I had was 1 finger stuff.
Iirc beringer recommended a 300mm disc back in the day.

Does the bike have an ABS light, it should.
When you turn the ignition on does it flash?
When you've ridden 5-10m does it go out?
Does the MOT tester ever ride a bike he tests?
He'd have to be pretty switched on to spot a missing reluctor ring.

Yes I think I might just see how we go with the 300mm. I have found a Moto-Master 300mm direct bolt in upgrade disc, so I might go with this and a good set of pads and see how we go for a bit.
Id rather be able to swap back and forth if I can anyway.
It’d just be nice to know exactly what to do if I need to upsize the disc size.

I’ll have to see how the light works, I’m not sure how it lights up in terms of daily riding.
I get what you say regarding would he (the mot tester) notice the light or not.
I have a feeling he would not notice as he’s tested my bikes for the last 10 years or more so probably gives me a bit of leeway.

The point is, unless you ride the bike for 5+ meters the light is never going to go off, ABS working or not. The MOT should never ride a bike.
It can't be an MOT fail, unlike an EML/EMS light.

Can you not use the standard 320mm disc from the Husky 701 SM / KTM 690SMC etc.?

Unfortunately not as the forks are different for the SM (shorter and firmer) and have a different mounting bracket for the larger calliper.
I could get SM forks I suppose, but the expense is then going up to just part ex-ing the bike for. Dedicated SM

I have managed to find a Moto-Master front 300mm upgraded disc for the Enduro and some sintered pads, so I may just go for that first.
At least I’ll be able to swap the wheels when the need arises.
The disc is £252 so I’m hoping at that price it’ll be a good improvement on the standard factory disc.
