I thought everyone knew the fastest car in the world is a hire car.

(especially when hired by an F1 driver...)

Company cars are faster - esp when you have borrowed someone else's

Real reason professional racing drivers are so quick.

That's been done at least a couple of times before ISTR. The bike is always gonna have a power to weight advantage in acceleration. Throw corners in and the F1 car is so much faster it's silly. That's 4 wheels, lots of rubber and massive amounts of downforce for ya.

F1 cars are proper lard arses these days. They're 798kg minimum weight for a number of reasons...hybrids, cost, common parts, crash safety...fwiw the one in the vid is fairly old, I'm not sure what it'd weigh.

They used to have a minimum weight of 600kg back in the 3 litre V10 days. Then you'd have 900-1000bhp and an insane power/weight ratio of 1600bhp/tonne. Which is pretty much what a modern MotoGP bike has!

RB8 was around 650kg. It's ancient.

Gets a bit complicated with when they introduced car+driver weight too.

The modern chonkers are still faster though  Fatter tyres, different aero and enormous e-boost capability.

They're going to get a *little* bit lighter in a couple of years, and smaller / narrower tyres etc.

They're tried smaller tyres and wings before. Didn't make the procession any more interesting......

F1 may be the pinnacle of motorsport, but by Christ it's boring.

All the rule changes etc. don't (can never) address what is the fundamental nature/problem of F1 IMO.

You get a bunch of people to build their own cars (mostly), then you limit how much you're allowed to change that design. Then you run a qualifying activity to set them all in speed order. Then you race them, starting in said order.

Then you wonder why nobody overtakes and one team always wins

I haven't watched the racing that much in quite some years, but it's fascinating to work in.

In all the club racing I've ever done (MX and short circuit) we always picked pegs out of a bag for our start places, they should do that.
We always memorised the colours on the pegs, then accidentally pull out 4 or 5, then throw the crap ones back in ;) :D

Budget crappy wooden pegs with numbers on, memories.

It would make the F1 - or televised races in general - much more interesting but they'd not get the viewing figures on Saturday for the bag-of-pegs raffle...

BTCC for the win.
Race 1 position by qualifying
Race 2 position by result of race 1
Race 3 position by reverse grid up to potentially the top 12 (number drawn at random) finishers of race 2
The grid for race three is based on finishing positions, however there is also a reversed-grid element to the starting order. Numbers representing the cars that finished from sixth to 12th position in race two are put into a bowl, and one number is drawn at random. The corresponding car will start on pole, with the cars that finished ahead of it reversed i.e. if number six is chosen, the car that finished sixth in race two will start from pole ahead of the car that finished fifth, fourth, third etc. The remainder of the grid follows as per the finishing order of race two

Most clubs gave you 2 races per class you entered. First for points and t'other for trophies. Some gave you opposite start numbers for each race, so worked out fair in the end.
