MCN Entry level aggression: CFMoto launch sub-£5k 450NK parallel twin naked

CFMoto have revealed a new £4990 450NK parallel-twin naked motorcycle for 2024, designed to slot in between the single cylinder 300NK, and larger capacity 650 twin variant.

The A2 licence roadster produces a claimed 46.3bhp at 10,000rpm plus 29lbft of torque at 7750rpm, making it a direct rival to the 46.9bhp Honda CB500F, 41.4bhp Yamaha MT-03, and 44.8bhp Kawasaki Z400 whilst undercutting all three on price.

At a claimed 165kg ready to ride, with a gentle 795mm seat height, the NK should be easy going for nervous newbies, with enough poke to keep seasoned riders and commuters entertained. This is helped further by the 270-degree crank that should give the motor a little more bark and feel more like a miniature V-twin.

Fighting the vibrations is a double balance shaft in the engine, with a 14-litre fuel tank up top likely to provide plenty of range between fill-ups. There’s also the inclusion of traction control to assist when required, with a slipper clutch provided as standard equipment to prevent unwanted lockups when changing down.

Although availability is not yet confirmed, riders can also enjoy a five inch TFT dash that provides navigation and mobile phone connectivity. What’s more, there’s also anti-theft and tracking capabilities – plus the option to install a USB-C charging port for your devices.

Electronics aside, the NK, features a set of upside down non-adjustable 37mm front forks, plus a single shock at the rear.

There’s also a 110/70×17 front and 150/60×17 rear wheel, which should allow for some quality tyre availability. This is handy as the CST AS5 standard fitments are unlikely to live up to the premium competition.

Stopping power comes courtesy of a single 320mm J.Juan disc and radially-mounted caliper up front, with a 220mm Hangte rotor at the back. This is supported by conventional ABS, helping to fight any nervous lock ups. For more, go to cfmoto-motorcycle.eu

Looks alright, top speed should be about 100mph, which is okay.

That's a good looking bike - I reckon better looking than its Japanese rivals.

I don't know a lot about CFMoto. Google tells me they are in partnership with KTM in a deal to get KTM into the Chinese market. KTM make the engines, apparently.

The bike seems to reflect that KTM influence.

I like the look of that. Depending on the distance from the seat to the bars, it looks like it might be kind to my spazzy arm!!

I'm guessing if you took off the rose tinted glasses you could say most bikes were shite compared to bikes of today. My small piece of anecdotal evidence is the difference between the Yamaha 125 I learnt on back in 2000 ish compared to the Suzuki 125 I learnt on a few years ago. You can guess which one was miles better in every way.

If everything is the same, then why does my MT 3cyl engine sound different to the 660 unit in my Trident? Quite a bit different actually.

As for the CF, I think it's an okay looking bike. Only ever seen 1 on the road before, think it was one of their adventure types.

If anyone could tell the difference between a Suzuki GS750 and a Kawasaki Z900 by sound alone I'd be very surprised, they're very similar engines, designed by the same person.

Anyone that has ridden one (and compared it to a modern 125) would agree.
My mate has a 1985 RD125LC, it's definitely a lot quicker than a modern 125, but it's also more work to ride and doesn't like going slowly.

Looks fine and fits a market slot (in more places than the UK). If it's half decent build quality it'll sell at the price. It's not going to set anyone's pants alight but that'll probably help with insurance for 'the younger rider'. I won't be dashing out to buy one but it's a reasonable proposition for a fair few I imagine.
