Fancied something new as the MX helmet and goggles combo don't work as well as I thought they would.

Initial impression is that it's noisier without earplugs than the MX lid was with. I'd Like the tinted visor to be a bit darker. Visibility is much improved.

It's a very good price, my last three Arai's came from them.

They've got the C80 for £208 in colours, how does that compare?

The drop down visors aren’t full black and even the darkest ones don’t drop down far enough as far as I have found. Still loads better than an mx lid with goggles though

I currently run the Neotec2 but they are fairly expensive

Purely by chance this turned up at the same time as spam from Sportsbikeshop. They are having a sale of Caberg helmets at very reasonable prices if anyone is looking to buy a helmet.

IMO Caberg aren't bad, not in the Arai league but they suit me. I have had about 5 over the years.

I went to have a look at these last week to replace my neotec, but after trying on a load of flip fronts the one that felt most comfy was a Nolan.

I was in the shop for maybe an hour trying different brands and models. Exactly as you say, often they just don't come down far enough. This one was the best of the sub €200 bunch i tried but still could be better.

In the early Spring I went thought the "I need a new helmet" thing.

Had I not had a good look in the mirror and said "stop being a knob" , I would have ended up with aN HJC flip front carbon . I thought the build quality was great
Unlike the Shoei Glamster I was going to look at!

The Shoei drop down I tried wasn't as dark nor come down as far as my Shark, that was definitely one the Shark was better at.

Earlier this year I needed a new helmet. FWIW I started off saying a drop-down visor was a must-have, so not Arai. After trying 12-15 helmets the best fit was...an Arai. So I bought it, together with a legal smoked visor. The visor eye vent broke after a couple of months, and I got a refund on that. I went back to what I'd been doing for a year or so with the old helmet, namely, wearing some yellow, polarising clip-ons on my glasses. For me, they work better than the legal tint. So, FWIW, as I say, might be worth a go if you haven't tried it.

I was able to give the helmet a proper little run yesterday.

Good points,
The drop down tint is pretty good.
Visor up and tint down creates a nice cooling breeze
Being able to flip the front up means I don't have to take my helmet off in shops

Bad points,
The noise, OMG the noise, above 100KMH, with ear plugs it feels like its noisier than the MX lid !!. It's so bad i ended up looking around for the other bike that had snuck up on me!

I've always found the "legal tint" nowhere near dark enough so always get a "race-black" visor for my Arais (I currently have a Shoei, but with the darkest visor I could get).

IIRC the legal tint is 50% (ie it cuts out 50% of visible light spectrum), and the race-dark is about 75% or so?

+1 for the masking tape.
Rockburner, yep the race tint is better of course in full sunshine. I did use one years ago. But the problem for me was the need to change it when the sun went in - not uncommon. I also tried the Arai external flip-down partial sun visor, but wasn't a fan. It rattled a bit, collected dirt, didn't always stay up, and was vulnerable to damage - I eventually broke it when I dropped the helmet on grass on a campsite.
