Ah, assumed it was more than that. So just a case of bigger engine for pretty much the same go due to emissions. Love it!Demannu wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 9:57 pmYep, a whole 1.9hp more go in stock trim from an extra 50cc. Torque looks good, but the gen1 isn't short of that in the first place!Supermofo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 11:35 amLe_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 8:52 am I really like my Suzuki, but I could like the XSR more, so I need to test ride one, as I could hate it.
My bike buying list is
Honda CB1000R
Kawasaki Z900RS
Suzuki GSX-S 1000
Yamaha XSR900
If they all cost the same the Honda would win, but they're all a bit odd looking, none of them give me that "I must have that" feeling, or even that "I want that" feeling.
I also wonder if the reason I'd buy the Honda is because of the concept 80s styled CB1000 that Honda made a few years ago.
I really liked Weeksy's XSR to ride, it was a great bike. That engine is a peach and the new one has even more go.
God bless euro5

That should allow for more grunt with a good ECU flash. Be rude not to unleash those extra strangled ponies.

Re: New shape XSR 900
Do MoT testers actually check for the presence of a cat on Euro4/5 bikes? I replaced the ugly, heavy cat (weighs about 5 kilos and interferes with oil changes) on my Duke 690 with a straight through pipe and my MoT tester didn't bat an eyelid. I note that Akrapovic do a full system for the XSR (for an eye-watering £1900) - I wonder if that retains the cat? Removal of the cat and a re-flash should pep it up a bit...

Re: New shape XSR 900
Watched a exhaust and ECU remap vid and the headline hp numbers are quite disappointing, and 114. Torque is really good though, which means at least it will feel fast!

What was the baseline, before the exhaust and remap?

Re: New shape XSR 900
105 is, which is pretty consistent with other 'independent' dynos.
No idea what my gen1 made stock but a full akra, filter, snorkel mod and generic flash gave 119 at a local and notoriously parsimonious tuners dyno. (The dyno, not the tuner btw)

Re: New shape XSR 900
OK, I think I'd be pretty pleased with a 9hp gain, especially if the torque is boosted, and assuming there are decent gains in the midrange as well. That's where a bike like this will spend most of its life, after all.

Re: New shape XSR 900
The best feature of an ecu flash is a sweeter running bike,no nasty fuel cut snatchiness. Any bhp or torque gains are a by product, for me anyway. To own and ride the bike as it was designed before the eco goons compromise it,is the real prize.

Buy a GSXS 750, mines as smooth as will from tick over to the redline, and unless you're using all the power already why do you need more?

Re: New shape XSR 900
I know it's just me, and I'm a bit weird in this respect, but the fact that the Yam is rocking a CP3 motor and not an IL4 is a major point of attraction for me. I've never owned a triple (and I don't really fancy a Triumph for some odd reason). And 100-120bhp is more than enough for me. Any more would be wasted.

I've only ridden one 4 stroke triple, it was a Yamaha, it wasn't good.

I had a Trumpet Triple, a Tiger 800.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 8:04 pm I've only ridden one 4 stroke triple, it was a Yamaha, it wasn't good.
They sold the triple as the torque of a twin and the top end of a four.
What it actually had was nowhere near the top end of a four and less torque than a twin. It didn't excel anywhere. I hope the Yam CP3 is betterer.

Re: New shape XSR 900
Why limit yourself to disliking the XS750 engine? They were an ugly, overweight slug, only marginally improved by boring it out to 850cc. It's fair to say that nothing of the XS has been retained in the CP3 engine.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 8:14 pmThe 1979ish XS750 engine wasn'tweeksy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 8:10 pmThe CP 3 engine is lovelyLe_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 8:04 pm I've only ridden one 4 stroke triple, it was a Yamaha, it wasn't good.

I didn't say I only dislikes the engine, the whole bike was pretty awful.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 8:54 pmWhy limit yourself to disliking the XS750 engine? And obviously the modern XSR has nothing from the XS750
