It doesn't - you can download maps to your phone. I have most of England so don't need data and it doesn't matter if I lose signal.
Bike CarPlay devices
Re: Bike CarPlay devices
That's pretty flash actually..
Though presumably you're likely to have sold it before you ever arrive anyway
Re: Bike CarPlay devices
Just googled it out of curiosity and seems a bit of an omission that it doesn't work wirelessly. Useful in a car, VERY useful on a bike. Seems that a lot of people add their own wireless adaptors, mind you.

You don't get the redirections due to traffic or incidents, but you can still navigate.
non quod, sed quomodo
Re: Bike CarPlay devices
True. Unlikely to lose signal for too long though, and I imagine that amount of data is pretty tiny compared to the maps.Rockburner wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 3:34 pmYou don't get the redirections due to traffic or incidents, but you can still navigate.

Re: Bike CarPlay devices
Google maps sips data anyway.
For 1 month I would have driven to work and back 4 times, 8 journeys, each 2 hours, and it's reporting it used 150mb.
I don't believe it caches common routes, but I've cleared it just the same to see what it uses this month.

Yep, have it running whenever I'm driving, saves me getting caught in roadworks or traffic jams.Yorick wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 4:08 pmCan't you remember the way?MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 3:59 pm Google maps sips data anyway.

TBH, for a lot of journeys I'll have it running for speed cameras anyway. M25/M23 that I was on yesterday is a nightmare for them as there are gantries everywhere but only a few with cameras.

Re: Bike CarPlay devices
I know that you can but the default is for the device not to do that. If you do download the maps do they get updated automatically or is this something you need to do by hand? That's what I like about my garmin, I don't have to remember to do any of this stuff, I just stick the bike in the garage and the thing updates itself when connected to wifi.
Re: Bike CarPlay devices
There's an auto-update toggle, yep. Can also decide whether to do only on wi-fi or not.dern wrote: ↑Mon Aug 07, 2023 4:21 pmI know that you can but the default is for the device not to do that.
