The 2V per cylinder motors also have significantly more midrange than the 4V ones. With that insanely light weight it must be an absolute hoot to ride.

Hi bimotamodder, I created the tank and seat in aluminum, so the tank is a one-off, I made a mold of the seat and laminated a carbon copy.... I hope I translated it correctly

Hi Shucy, I've just discovered this forum and seen your db2. You've done a beautiful transformation! I too have a db2 (edizione finale from 1998) and love riding it. I have modified mine to make it more practical for street use by fitting flat handlebars and removing the fairing and a few other parts: I think the weight is now 155kg. Standard engine with Keihin FCR 41 carbs (essential upgrade). But I'm not really happy with the standard bodywork - yours is perfect! And the Bimota is definitely not "just a 900ss" - ride them both and the difference is massive. I love the craftsmanship of these bikes. Have you seen the Walzwerk Ducati conversions? Congratulations on your work.

It's just a 900ss

Perhaps you might want to reconsider now you know just how much effort went into this machine. Got to be one of the best readers rides ever.

I nearly bought a Bimota once, for the name (and it was cheap!) but damn, those things are ugly. I think only the Tesi ever appealed to me in the slightest and that's largely because it is just so incredibly ugly, you have to admire it.

This highly modified version is beautifully finished and such a neat job it doesn't even look like a "special".

Bimotas are very interesting machines, often dismissed as overpriced curiosities, but in reality hand-made small production-run bikes which aim to be lighter, better handling, faster and of higher quality than the mass produced version. Not always better looking.. But take the bodywork off and you're looking at a factory race department machine (not now of course). Speaking as someone who has owned and ridden Ducatis for over 30 years, the Bimota has even more soul and character and the hand-made quality is evident. Probably overpriced when new, but almost a bargain secondhand considering the tiny quantities made. Of course in the late 1990s Ducati produced better, but not hand made, bikes. After all, it was one of the founders of Bimota who designed the 916 series. The Bimota DB2 in standard form produces a couple more hp than the equivalent 900ss Ducati, weighs almost 30 kg less (167kg), has a 23 degree steering head angle and a wheelbase of 1380mm. The 900ss rides like a bus in comparison. No disrespect to the 900ss, which is also a great old-school bike!

I would love a Tesi, probably my favourite off the shelf bike (cept maybe the Arc Vector, which you can only sort of buy).

In the real world though I could see myself on a DB10.
