Recently passed my CBT so I've been riding a Honda XR125 but I've already got the bug and would like to go for my full license. I'm struck by a yamaha xsr700 for my first bike.

The only bike at present is the new 200cc Italjet Dragster.
My original year 2000 2 stroke one is a keeper ( it's completely original and still has only done approx 2k km from new) , I just love the look of the new ones and at €5.5k it is, IMO, reasonably priced for something which has a lot of really cool engineering and styling touches and to my eyes at least, is gorgeous 8-)
I think it could well end up as another classic, so is a no-brainer really- another for the pension/kids inheritance fund :)

At the end of last year, the factory was saying June /July, but, well, it's made in Italy, and that date was pre CV19, feck knows when they will appear now...

For a couple of grand you can't go wrong, I'll give it to my lad, he can abuse it for a year as a 17yr old scrote, then I'll ride it around when it's a bit knackered and not care a fig if it gets knocked about.

I like the looks of the ER5!
As for it being a bit cheap, all new bikes look a bit cheap and nasty compared with the Japanese sports bikes of the 90s, the CB750/900/1100 it's styled after were a bit nasty finish wise, but so were most early 80s bikes. I'm more bothered about how much it's going to weigh as it will have to have ABS and all the other crap modern bikes have to have

I have looked at the bike it's based on with a view to buying one, the concept worked for me, but the styling didn't, and I don't want it for track use, I've got other bikes for that.

Really like that CB concept, would be better with a big box section alloy swingarm than the single sider though.

I agree completely with that, it'd probably look better with twin shocks, but mono shock works better

Shortlist? Nah, I don't think it works like that - at least for me. I don't visit bikeshops very often, but when I do I like to be led to something that appeals. That is likely to mean something I've not had before, and something that will make me think wow! It helps if you have a bike trader you trust - in a sense someone who knows how to play the game. I don't mind being 'sold to' if I trust the dealer. Anyway, when I bought the Triumph America, I was half way to a Honda VFR1200 when the dealer made some interesting comments about cruisers. I'd never had a cruiser.....done! Cheers

For the first time in ages there's nothing on my "to-buy" list. Another classic might be nice but I don't have the budget to do a proper restoration, or the time to ride the two I already have. Either way the track SV would have to go first as there's no space in the garage, and I don't see that going for a couple of years - I'm not ready to quit trackdays just yet. On the road now, the 790 and the Grom meet all my road biking needs. One is plenty fast enough and amazingly capable on and off road, the other is just ridiculous fun. Ask me again in a year ;)

Funny, after years of saying I prefer bikes that don't have twiddly looking "bits stuck anywhere" styling, a modern bike that looks to me far too slabby. :wtf:

As a former 1985 GSXR750 owner, I don't think that's possible

Not for a while yet, but possibly either
790 Duke
1090 Adventure

I was intending to get a ride on both this year if we get past this virus stuff!

790's at 6.6k is very very very tempting.

:) If Mrs wasn't already Furloughed and our company starting to do the same starting with 170 people this afternoon I might. Hoping I'll be ok, but for the foreseeable I'm not spending anything. Kicking myself for buying a car in Jan as I'm not needing one right now.

Biggest sticking point is the 690 still feeling like my perfect bike though. Unless the 790/1090 totally blow my socks off on a test ride the 690 is staying.

well, i have no intention of getting rid of the lardmobile, but if for some reason it ever went terminal, i´d probably look at grabbing the XV1900 raider…

or if the funds wouldn´t allow, i´d grab a BT1100 bulldog...

one of the last jobs i did at the shop was a restauration on one that had been abused. got a few more ponies out of it and found it was a delightful bike to ride. i´d have one as a second bike in a heartbeat!

as i´m an average rider on a good day, both of those would more than fill my needs.
did i just type that?....aw crap!

my tiger 800xc is approaching 60k miles, so it's time to start thinking about another bike to take on the duties when there's no salt on the roads leaving the tiger to take on the really shitty winter months.
I've got problems with my left hand so an Auto gearbox is really attractive. This lead me to this Africa Twin DCT that I took out a couple of weeks ago and was completely smitten.

Timing isn't quite right just yet but if we land up locked down for long enough I might be able to afford one when we're allowed out again.
