Puncture repair kits?

After yesterdays hot and sweaty walk after a rare for me puncture, I should really invest in some kind of puncture kit to take with me.

My F-I-L who is an accomplished long distance cyclist recommends the squirty foam cans but they then waste the tube. I'd rather not carry a pump so are these repair kits with the little gas cylinders any good?

Should I just sack off tubes and go tubeless? 700cx25

I just used to carry a spare tube and a pump + tyre levers. I did experiment with tubeless which initially worked very well but when I replaced the jizz after the initial batch aged I think the new stuff didn't mix to well with the remnants of the old stuff despite me cleaning it out. The tyres failed to seal after that so I've given up and gone back to tubes and Conti gator skin tyres (which were an utter nightmare to fit, bastard tight onto my Mavic rims and managed to puncture a couple of tubes fitting them).

I have a spare set of Schwalbe Durano Plus in the garage in the right size, may fit those and see if any better? Certainly feel like they have a more rigid carcass.
My other bike did have Marathon Plus fitted and I never punctured one of those but certainly don't roll as nicely.
