It would appear Mrs M has brought a tummy bug home from one of her nursery visits and I spent the day suffering at work.
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"

Gardening.
We've ripped out enough trees, bushes and shrubs from the garden to fill the biggest skip that the hire place does.
Today I've got blackberry bushes to tame and the hedgerow from the west end of the garden to hack back.

That totally sucks. Can't believe that it doesn't cost her anything at all - that surely just encourages people like that (who obviously don't care about anyone else's education) to do the same??Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 8:35 pm Been to a school Governor's meeting all afternoon. One lovely parent has complained about 3 of her kids, taken all 3 complaints through a 3 stage process (and the final stage is independent of that school), and now taken all 3 complaints to judicial review because she doesn't like the answer.
The kicker is that she incurs no costs, it costs us about £18k a throw for specialist lawyers. That is £18k that could, and should, be spent on children's education.

Is it not worth waiting for the blackberries to ripen? (maybe that's already happened, I lose track cos we don't really have fruit up this high!! LOL)

Yes, but I'm hoping to pin a lot of it back and trim some of it, it's partially blocking a pathway.
We eat loads of berries, so I've got blackberries, Logan berries, Honey berries, raspberries, blueberries, etc.

Whatever level of ability a child has (relative to age appropriate), it seems that the further and harder (and louder, and ruder, and aggressively) parents argue, the more likely they are to get inappropriate provision that they think is necessary for their child.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 8:35 pm Been to a school Governor's meeting all afternoon. And that loud / rude / aggressive attitude is getting worse.
In another thread, deterioration in driving standards post-pandemic was mentioned. That seems to be occurring elsewhere too (I've heard similar from emergency services too).

Re: What have you done today thread?
Yesterday now, sorted out car repairs for a parishioner, saving them a few hundred pounds.
Funny thing was that at the garage where the car ended up for the more reasonable repair, a mechanic asked me if I did absolution (forgiveness of sins). I was wearing my clericals, albeit with bike jacket and helmet/gloves. I reminded him that God forgives those who truly repent and then prayed the prayers of absolution and forgiveness. Ministry comes in many shapes and happens in many places.
Anyone watching would have wondered what was going on with this 6ft5 biker with a clerical collar praying over a greasy mechanic on the forecourt of the workshop... Love my calling to ministry.

One who forgives an affront fosters friendship, but one who dwells on disputes will alienate a friend.

Ahh, I had thought (in a quick read) that tame would be chop back!! Sorry. Tame is more about tying back I guess in gardening!
I'm very envious of all those berries

Re: What have you done today thread?
This morning I took a wheel off an electric scooter (similar size to a small motorbike wheel!!!), took the tyre and tube off, changed a spoke and put it all back together!
Two issues -
couldn't get the wheel back in - it's not a loose spindle and I had the wheel "upside down" - but once the position of the wheel was pointed out, that went back in very well.
I tightened the spoke far too much So will sort that later!
Sooo much to learn as I've never done anything technical with cycles and the scooters are just oversized cycles with no pedals!! So it's all very new! But, hopefully I'll learn fast in the next couple of weeks ready for the really busy August weeks

Spokes are not simple things to work on and can behave in unexpected ways, you might have a few wtf moments in future.

Half dismantled the oven as it decided to half stop working the day before we have visitors arriving. It's a double oven and I thought I might be able to swap the control boxes over. I can but not to a point where it functioning properly.
It's a 25 year old Neff and the parts I need are not available.

@Taipan has a spare oven in his loft. You want gas or electric ?cheb wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 11:56 am Half dismantled the oven as it decided to half stop working the day before we have visitors arriving. Re: What have you done today thread?
Was thinking that!!
One of the things he did yesterday on the non electric scooter was 'tap' each spoke to hear the 'song' (or ping!!) it made and say that they should all be similar!!!
So today I do that and one of them makes no song - it sounds dead! I tried to explain it to him but it was in the two mins between classes, so hopefully we'll get a chance after lunch!
It is making me think I just need to MTFU to go see why the Monster dumped it's fuel and why the left peg vibrates painfully!! It's more scary working on things that someone is going to rent than anything else I've done I think, so I really do need to sort the Monster - no excuses now!!

And with some thinnish wire and bit of scrappy looking soldering it lives to cook again.cheb wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 11:56 am Half dismantled the oven as it decided to half stop working the day before we have visitors arriving.
