What bank is holding his savings, that he thinks doesn’t tell HMRC about the interest?Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 8:45 am Numpties with shit/no lawyers are easy to hammer
In a similar vein I was talking to one of my colleagues the other day about savings interest and tax. His argument was that's not gonna declare/pay it because "I'm too small for them to notice"...my counterargument is "you're exactly the sort of person they'd notice because it's so easy to catch you".

Yeah but I wouldn't be surprised if my bank just said "sorry, we don't have any coppers".cheb wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 8:59 amYes you can, it's really not difficult unless you are stupid or rude.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 8:51 amI genuinely wonder if you could still go to a teller and do this ^^^. It's all reasonable if it's just Farage getting shut down though, isn't it.

Grey area though innit?...it wasn't the striking which was the problem, it was the blockading. Striking is 'allowed' but effectively forcing loads of other uninvolved people to go on strike too (by blocking roads, ports etc.) isn't. If for argument's sake some foreign power drove a load of trucks over and blockaded all the roads you'd expect the government to do something about it.Potter wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 8:58 am like the Canadian truckers strike, they just froze their bank accounts and starved them away - this effectively killed the only real bargaining chip the working class have, if you withdraw your labour and strike then no problem, we'll just starve you to death by freezing your money.
I do take the point though, as I said in another thread if you go to deep down this rabbit hole you'll end up digging a bunker in your garden and stockpiling canned food.

Especially when the video makers (Coin Bureau) are crypto specialists that can see their gravy train getting derailed once the big national finance institutions start playing the game.
Apart from not being able to 'mine' my own e-coins my life seems pretty virtual currency anyway. eg bought some socks on-line, priced in £, free delivery etc. Apart from when the £ transaction was processed via xxxpp.de there was absolutely nothing to indicate I was dealing directly with Germany. (I do know Falke is a German company). Same pretty much buying stuff from Amazon. Chances are only a slightly extended delivery tells you that Amazon are brokering your transaction with China.

Not going to work is different from deliberately going out and blocking other stuff (picket lines notwithstanding) though isn't it?

Re: Central Bank Digital Currency
I think you can do it by arrangement because they simply don't bother to hold that much locally any more. Personally it's at least 20 years since I bothered to withdraw a largeish sum over the counter, and even that was by arrangement.
Of course if everyone wanted to do it, the banks would have to adapt, people power would win. And this is the point surely? In the UK we make a big thing about democracy and free speech and rightly so - so we can object to these banking changes and make our feelings known. So it's great to be aware but so far nothing has happened, other than a misguided poor-me story from a UKIP millionaire.

It tickles me that on here, banks are either hell-bent on tracking your every move and stopping you from getting your hands on your own money by stopping online transactions or incompetent and unable to stop fraud from your account, even when it was obvious it was not a typical transaction. Usually both at the same time.

What is this 'locally' of which you speak? Banks don't do branches any more.

Re: Central Bank Digital Currency
I genuinely don't know if I'd be allowed to just withdraw my salary as cash every month. I have a feeling it would at first raise eyebrows (have you actually tried getting a large wedge off a bank?) and then after a few months I'd imagine they'd probably invite me to find banking services elsewhere.
Just a guess though.

Well, we have a bank in our village I have to say it's pretty rare though, even out here. We lost our village PO last week.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 10:04 am What is this 'locally' of which you speak? Banks don't do branches any more.
My own bank (HSBC) nearest branch is 20 miles away. Last time i went (and it was years ago) they wouldn't even let me into the building as "they didn't recognise me". But I can imagine the long drawn out conversation, eye-rolling and shrugs if I dared to require cash

I stopped going when they always answered every enquiry with "have you looked online?"
