Here I am, this morning. Last night I got off the fence and was in the blue, but the same distance to the right. Neither of these surprised me in the slightest; I may not manage thousands, but I do have to get a lot of other people to do their fecking job so I can do mine

What's interesting is that Barrack Obama is purported to be slightly further to the right, and a fair bit more into the blue than me. If correct, that says a lot about what umericans believe to be "left wing".

I was firmly in the left economic libertarian box, which is interesting as I generally vote Conservative and dislike the Labour party because they want to control people too much.

But I found the questions a bit odd.

I saw a very interesting program about Nazi Germany this week, and apart from the racism, the Nazis were very left wing Socialists, and are a really good example of how to fuck running a country up.

Really, i think as they nearly took over the world they done a fairly good job, Hitler was a just mental.

Nope, all of them were useless, and by 1942 the ones with any sense could see they had no chance of winning the war, mind you, the Japanese military new they had little chance of winning after they failed to sink the US aircraft carriers at Pearl Harbour.

Secondly, it's not exactly a balanced questionnaire!!

Mothers may have careers, but their first duty is to be homemakers.

Some of the questions really do not have any balance, but I don't really know what effect that would have on the outcome?

This "test" is clearly designed to get a certain answer.

Yes and no.

It's a very blunt tool and designed to carve you up quite quickly into your pigeon hole - unsurprisingly most of you are natural libertarians because you all want your own way and none of you are senior leaders so you've never had to manage many thousands of people that want their own way.

I didn't like some of the options and I didn't like some of the answers I gave even if they're true, but if I answer honestly, then very unsurprisingly here I am...

I think that is pretty much where I'd expect you to be. From your posts I don't think you lean in anyone direction - you analyse and make a decision. If you are very analytical (in the way that I read from your posts), it wouldn't make sense to lean in any direction.

On a personal level, I suspect you are a bit different but that fits with what you've written above. (Not sure I've explained myself very well here, hope it makes sense!)

I don’t know if I’ve done it wrong (the results are the same every time I take this test) but I view it no more seriously than a Take A Break ‘ which zoo animal are you?’ time wasting type.

I think the point was more about why one might answer differently and whether it's because you are an idealist, a pragmatist, a fantasist or just a bit thick and want your own way like a petulant teenager but don't understand the ramifications. We're all libertarians when we want our own way, but do you have the emotional and political intelligence to understand what you're doing?

As for your sarcasm on the discussion of psychometric testing and manipulation of outcome...well...based on your posting I don't see you sharing intellectual space with Chomsky any time soon even if you do end up in the same political square as him.

The funny part about all that is that you share most of your political space on this forum with Ant.

It does indeed show that a short test is in no way indicative of the greater body of opinions expressed so I guess in that respect you're right?

LOL. First time I did it I was in a bit of a rush and misread the result...didn't scroll down enough. Done it a couple more times, a bit more leisurely. Once being a bit hmm/maybe and once being a bit more strongly agree/disagree. It all balanced out and the result didn't change much.

Turns out I'm closer to Mandela, -4.8 (left right) and - 4 in the libertarian zone on average. So, pretty much where I would have expected. The answers for anyone on the outer edges must be pretty (I'll have a go to see if I can become Chomsky They should put Skinner on there too).

Potter mentioned pragmatists, idealists and dreamers up there. I think if I put my pragmatist head on I'd move towards the centre, if I put a dreamers head on, as I suspect most of us would, we'd be heading towards one or other of the theorists/philosopher types* (they tend to the boundaries). It's a bit more satisfying to do with 'gut instinct' though.

It would be nice to see a chart with more of them on - yer Hegels, Skinners, Machiavelli and the economics bods.
