Not my bike, but a bargain for somebody

Post by mangocrazy »

A guy on the FB Falco forum is selling his 2001 candy red Falco (with only a scarcely believeable 5800 miles on it) for £1800. The downside is he is in Stirling, Scotland (well, a downside for us soft southerner Sassenachs, anyway). This is his post:

Hi all, after persevering with the Falco for the last few weeks, I've come to the conclusion that while it's a beautiful looking bike and great to ride, the ergonomics just don't suit me for more than 30 miles.
To that end, I'm going to let her go and get something more upright.
I'm only advertising on Gumtree and on this group.
Aprilia SL1000 Falco
2001 (X)
5800 genuine miles
Full Service History
2 keys
V5 present and in my name
Manual, service book, toolkit
MOT Oct 2023
New tyres
New battery
New GR Moto carbon cans, not too offensive!
3 previous owners, one of them for 19 years.
Extremely clean, with only a few very minor blemishes. Could probably do with a chain & sprocket kit (more through age than wear), but I'll leave that to the new owner.
£1800 fixed price - must be the biggest bargain out there.
The bike is located in Stirling, Scotland.

Form an orderly queue...

They never really caught on, but the engine is a corker and that looks in very good nick indeed.

If it helps anyone, we're going Glencoe in a month or so and could consider collection.

I'd buy myself if I thought I'd ride it

That does look like a real bargain.

The Falco is quite a sporty riding position for an auld git like me so I wouldn't use it. And it's too far away for me too.

If it were neared and I had the inclination I suspect it could be sold on to make a few quid.

If I had any room to put it (and thought I could get it past Mrs Mango) I'd have bitten his arm off already...

If you loved the TL (and I know you did) you'd be just as smitten by a Falco. It's actually the bike the TL should have been. The only downsides are a) it's a bit tall b) the side stand is crap and c) the OE shock is crap. The rest of the bike is bang on.

I rode @Docca Falco many years ago, but in truth, it was 15+ years ago and I've no idea whether I liked it or not.

I did ride his TL1000 and it was dogshit.

Absolutely not worried about a, b or c!!

But, if I didn't live at the top of 21 hairpins and 3 roundabouts, a sportsbike could be an option.

Sadly I am certain that my shoulder couldn't deal with that position going down and to then have to come back, whilst easier, probably not possible after the workout going down :( :(

I am really sad about it, not so much for this bike, but cos I would love to get another TL here!! Might have to find a garage in the valley one day!!!

I'm currently having to admit that the Falco's riding position is a bit stretched for my ageing bones, but there's no way I'm selling it. Instead I'm effectively converting it to a Tuono...

I always liked the look of the Futura, but I think they only sold three of them.

I saw his TL1000, it was dogshit, I wouldn't have wanted to ride it.

Just along the road from me, 9 miles.

If I had the money.
