Re: Views on the BBC approach to protecting their media star?
The BBC were sniggering about the credibility of The Sun in this whole affair on the Six O'clock News.
It was almost as if they were laughing directly at Ant, while sipping tax payer funded champagne and discussing how they will help usher in Labour at the next general election; whereupon they will impose taxes to take away Ant's grubby little stash and distribute it to transpeople and foreigners.

It's not often you see 'credibility' and 'the Sun' in the same sentence. (Unless the word 'struggling' is also present, of course...)MyLittleStudPony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 7:44 pm The BBC were sniggering about the credibility of The Sun in this whole affair on the Six O'clock News.

The circulation of the sun well outstrips that of the papers the bitter and resentful are reading, which puts them and their views well into a minority. Minority factions sure do like to shout the loudest about how hard done by they all feel.

I might challenge that - I think social media means we are de-evolving

Re: Views on the BBC approach to protecting their media star?
Yeah I think that would hinge on the precise definition of "average". There are many!
Back on topic, I think "guess the celeb" could end up costing any websites foolish enough to propose a name liable for severe financial penalty.
It is still entirely possible no actual crime has been committed. Despicable behaviour? In my opinion, yes. Illegal? Who knows. There are conflicting reports regarding whether or not "under 18" photos were exchanged. Clearly there was contact at age 17 (during which time the dodgy celeb could happily fuck the brains out of the "victim"). But the entire "case" appears to be only the mother complaining and not the (now) 20 year old "child".
If no crime has been committed the presenter will still inevitably be "outed" at which time, his six figure salary is gone. Forever.
He will want to recoup that...

I always though average IQ was nominally set at 100.Screwdriver wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 8:37 pmMy irony sensors are overloading.
the benchmark is always evolving to keep average at 100
So were people on the 1960s less intelligent than now - cause with technology people would appear now to be cleverer ( or dumber). But the 100 parameter changes to keep it at 100. would love to see the statistical drift - and how culture and experience are negated

I think it is the mode (!) to use the mean. And talking about intelligence, rather than IQ, by definition half will be below.Mr Moofo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 9:19 pmI always though average IQ was nominally set at 100.

Re: Views on the BBC approach to protecting their media star?
Going back to my original point, are we getting more intelligent or less ? Using mode is also assuming that intelligence is a normal distribution within the population.MyLittleStudPony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 9:23 pmI think it is the mode (!) to use the mean. FB was originally for US college boys.
Letting the great unwashed have access to it was like giving a kid a hand grenade.

The internet in general was developed so that scientific institutions could share data easily, or so the history goes.
It all went downhill from there
