Phoned a guy who was recommended as a buyer of second-hand records*, as we're having a clear out. Looking through them, I found a note written on a Wimpy paper serviette, from me to Mrs. Gremlin, written probably 30+ years ago. I'd obviously been a bit of a twat as I was apologising for some errant behaviour.

Fuck me, where did that time go...? :o

*I sent several WhatsApp videos of me flicking through them all, to which he called with a polite 'Thanks, but no thanks'! It'sofficial: we have shite taste in music.

I was a bit worried a week ago at the start of my job as I thought the new boss thought he'd made a mistake.

But -

Yesterday at the end of the day we had a chat and he was very complimentary and also said he's really happy with the fact that I'm not lazy and I keep learning and am proactive about learning

This morning his wife told me the same (in case he hasn't told me!)

This afternoon he complimented me on a good job for the day

Phew!!

Me too. It’s the first one I got. Then I circled around Guildford for a bit and went back and got the other.

(It’s Exmouth, apparently)

Listening to local commercial radio yesterday, they have a regular slot for a specialist to give indicative values for old records.

The gist seemed to 'not much'. Even incredibly rare stuff (100 copies ever sold, against a band's wishes) was a £few00. And comedy records like Hancocks blood donor? You're 'avin a larf.

I've been buying old records recently, anything between £2 and £12 usually, but the place I buy them wants proper money for stuff like original Beatles albums. They want £100 for a copy of the white album and £50 for an original pressing of Bowie's Hunky Dory.

These were my most recent purchases...

I bought two Makita 18V circular saws as 'Parts or not working' and both of them work.

An inch-thick slice of good sourdough, toasted to crunchy perfection. Two poached eggs. Dollop of ketchup.

Simple things in life, innit.

Try this with the same bread, peanut butter, then a smear of HP Sauce.

You lot are aware of Discogs.com right?

https://www.discogs.com/release/422921- ... Hunky-Dory

I literally live on that website.

I used to be able to get some good bargains at charidy shops for old vinyl but they are all savvy to Discogs now and normally price everything that is in fairly decent condition to the medium it sold for.

I have numerous records worth over £200 i probably paid a tenner for just a few years ago.

It's all the ltd ed stuff and mint originals that fetch all the money. I also find tracks/albums that were not released on anything but 1 media type fetch a fair few bucks, i have CD's worth £70/£80 quid, some of them are CD singles!

Also anything that contains exclusive additional media such as an LP with a 1 track 7" included that can only be found in the LP release. I have seen just the 7" from such packages go for 10x the price of the full release!

Found a dormouse trapped in a bucket under the hazel tree in the garden, wouldn’t normally handle one as they’re protected but he might have been there some time, gave him a drink and let him climb back into the trees.
