Views on the BBC approach to protecting their media star?

I think my view is that the BBC are doing the right thing here: wanting to keep names out of the news until an investigation can be completed.

I also think that the organisation has had a bit of a bumpy ride with regards to its staff and engaging in dubious acts- so might have also forgiven then if they'd have come out more on the transparent, front foot.

60% of the BBC's funding comes direct from tax money, in addition to that, the people also pay a TV Licence direct to the BBC.

The BBC are the same as any other company in that they'll protect their assets while they are valuable and dump them when they are more damaging. It's the same for literally any employee of any company.

I read an explanation on the BBC saying a court case last year set a precedent that names aren't allowed to be released until charges are brought, that includes the police who were also way too happy to tar people with no evidence.

The handling of it a shambles. But then anything handled by HR normally is. In principle I doubt it's super different to the way that this sort of thing is handled in any other organisation - other than that by now, given the history, you would think they would have a foolproof dedicated policy for this exact scenario.

Social media is one thing but some of the rags are happily "reporting" "stories" about every male beeb presenter not currently at their desk.
