CF MOTO 800NK

Same money as a new Hornet, very similar power.

Same engine as the KTM 790.

It's a bit higher spec than the Hornet, but does that make up for it being Chinese rather than Japanese?

Personally I'd probably wait for a back to back tests, but just the fact the Hornet is a 'Honda' would sway me in that direction on paper.

I suspect the new Hornet is mostly made in China

Possibly, but who has the better reputation to maintain, CF Moto or Honda?

I bet the the Chinese Honda factories have Japanese QA's.

I'm in two minds these days about CF Moto, I'm starting to see more of them and they look pretty well made, but the lack of dealer back up would put me right off.

But that's a super looking bike.

Chinese bike brands do not have any cachet, so they have to be the cheaper option, or at least bring significantly better specs to the table.

Pay the same money for a similarly specced CF Moto as a Honda? No, I couldn't do it.

Also, even if the bikes themselves are getting better now, you just can't rely on long term spares availability. Even if you don't plan to keep the bike forever, that fact/opinion is hard on used values.

We need a term like Jap Crap here.

China Whiner?
Chink clink?
Slitty eyed shitty buy?

Bit much, that last one.

Just the last one?

"Chinesium" is already the accepted term.

Isn't there some sort of tie-in that they'll be available through KTM dealerships?

Or does that still apply? :D

Seems like it's a KTM 790 without the best bits of a 790... but not exactly 'cheap'

I can't see any reason you'd buy one.

The comparison MCN went with is "same price as the Hornet but not a Honda" but seems it's fairer to make the comparison you have. It's a KTM 790 but without the good stuff, without the badge, only £1k cheaper, and will be worth ✓FA after 3-5 years.

Nah.

Going to see more mainstream manafacturers using China and India to build their bikes under their "supervision".

Build costs make up a fair % of a bikes cost. Opening a factory where big incentives are given to move there, plus the cheaper labour rates in that area make it an attractive proposition, at least profit wise. Who is to say if the quality will be any different?

@Whysub India also has different taxes on vehicles depending if they're imported fully assembled, fully made in India, or assembled in India.

Nevermind UK, the whole European market is pretty insignificant next to the Indian market.

CF Moto are now backed by KTM's distributer / dealer network.
