Norton Nemesis

Post by KungFooBob »

I had to double check today's date, but April is long gone....

Motorbike Show - Our Secret is Out!

If you saw last Monday’s episode of ITV4s The Motorbike Show, you will have seen our friends Henry Cole & Allen Millyard are involved with the museum in one of the most exciting projects we have ever undertaken.

Allen Millyard is getting our 1998 Norton Nemesis V8 into running order, so that we can attempt the V8 motorcycle land speed record with Henry on board!

You will see the story unfold in future episodes, don’t miss it!

The show is available on catch-up with new episodes broadcast on Monday @ 9pm, and repeated at 8pm on Thursday.

136mph

That's quite a challenge!

I saw the show while whizzing through guide but presumed they were old shows, good shout and recorder set. 👍

Unlike some,I enjoy watching the Motorcycle show Mondays episode with the Nemesis was entertaining .Diid you see how much water was drained out of the sump!
I've always understood that it's really poor practice not draining water from a motor that's not being used, rotting magnesium, cracked blocks from freezing etc.
Anyway it was a good watch
Oh & did you see how much he's spent on that GT750 resto

I think he was at about 8 grand before paint and a few other things but justified it by saying the fully restored immaculate ones are reaching 12 to 14K

I didn't see the show, I stole that off the Motorcycle Museums FB feed.

I think I'll have to watch it on catch up. I didn't think the Nemesis even ran when it was shelved.

I always wondered if the headlights come from a Peugeot Speedfight moped, anyone know?

I was under the impression that the fabled V8 motor never ran and (whisper it) didn't have any internals. I bet Allen Millyard will be machining all the internals up on his lathe...

I regularly see folk now 'asking' circa £18k for Kawasaki 750 H2s,but I didn't think the GT 750 was fetching anything like £14k.

I was an avid reader of More Crap than News back in the late 90's. The Nemesis got a crazy amount of column inches back in the day.

I remember a few years ago when the Walkie talkie building was focusing the suns rays and melting the plastics of cars down below.

Looks like that Norton was parked in the focal spot.

Why is the record only 136mph though? Surely someone's put a big American V8 in a motorcycle a million times by now.

No-one bothered to set a record I suppose.

If there is a man to do it then Millyard is the one ….. his viper engine in a bike is a V10 so doesn’t count

I am not a huge fan of Henry but I watch the show and skip through most of his bits to see what the resto is and what he has Millyard doing ;)

I think you are right from what they said on the show as it was like a lot of the Norton history since the name was sold and pretty much the last 40 years ….. all show and no actual go

I hope the latest iteration has more success for the brand and more so for the punters paying money for a bike that might actually work or even just be built

I had a GT750 at 18. Only 3 years old and loved it. Times move on. Wouldn't give 10 bob for it now.

They have. But they're nearly all big cruisers. I'm pretty sure Millyard has made a V8 though.

I guess nobody really cares. If it makes 100bhp it'll beat the record. I can't see Henry Cole going for 200 odd mph.
