A recent little bimble over to Germany for a long weekend. Was hot and sunny all the time. The rideout had us cross the Mosel and Rhine over a dozen times including two ferry crossings. All was good until 30mins from Calais on the way back. One member of the group set off from home expecting their tyre to last about 800 miles. They were correct. The only issue was we did around 1100

I sat behind a mate watching the canvas slowly appear up the middle of his rear tyre, right until it burst. He rode the last 10 miles home on the remnants.

I have the video of him squirming to a halt on the motorway. Very lucky that's all that happened as previously we'd been through the twisties etc etc.

I got a rear down to the canvas the morning after a 2000 mile trip down to the Bol and back. I'd meant to be travelling on a pair of new tyres, but the local incompetent fitter in Kent cocked up the order, and I left on the worn tyre.

I was on the way to Watling Tyres up in SE London from Maidstone when I spotted the tell-tale white strip as I filled up with fuel.

Scariest thing I've seen was a French-plated GSXR1100 with a front tyre with two matching canvas strips either side of a centre bit that still had rubber on it. Didn't seem to bother the rider as he jumped on and nailed it away. I've seen more bald tyres on sports bikes No wonder the EU has forced France to mandate technical inspections this year.

It's forgotten to stop raining here since the middle of June. July is set to be similar. The bike hasn't turn a wheel.

It was a little liberating getting rained on coming home Tuesday as my bike is now dirty. Just gonna lube the chain and crack on now as I'm worried about it getting more dirty.

I think nature is telling me to get out on the Speed Triple, and leave the Himalayan at home for a while.

We went for a ride through the Forest of Bowland & over to the Dales today.
It's over a decade since I last took the Slaidburn to Bentham road.I ended up taking my mates to one of my favourite MTB cafes.

Hooned around earlier today, just to get the feel for the H1. I managed to lose a left footrest rubber somewhere during the proceedings! fifty quid for a couple of rubbers, ffs.

The last couple of days haven’t been ideal

Yesterday while training 2 lads for Mod 2 test picked up a 1 inch screw so managed to limp back and plug in a repair

Image

Then today the local authority decided that the perfectly smooth and undamaged road from our training base needed to be turned into a deep gravel track ffs

Even the lads doing the work said “it’s made it way worse than it was before we started” ….. no shit Sherlock

On a positive note it's a opportunity to show the pupils that you don't need a new tyre when it's punctured in the middle & give the pupils some experience on loose road surfaces.

An unsympathetic person may comment, you are well used to having your rear plugged, but doing it yourself requires a special skillset. :silent:
