Re: premium bonds.
We have the full monty in ours, but this year we have had just over £2K, so getting a min of 5% atm.
Last year it was £2.3k in total.
This time next year Rodders, we'll be millionaires

Re: premium bonds.
Oh, absolutely.
All for using tax effective options but there's a £20k limit and I'd rather use that for guaranteed returns. The share stuff is just for fun really. I used to trade a lot more but always found it was feast or famine tbh. Same with funds, some would do well for a few years then they wouldn't - I don't think I did much better than trackers over the long run when dealing charges were taken into account.

Re: premium bonds.
TBF the only shares/funds stuff I have is my pension and savings accounts I don't plan to touch for years/decades. Investments are indeed feast/famine but generally only when viewed in the short term

Yup. The other thing I found is that your attitude to it all changes on retirement. Life's a bit different when you've got a slab of salary coming in each month. When you haven't you get a bit more defensive with your hard earned.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 9:33 am TBF the only shares/funds stuff I have is my pension and savings accounts I don't plan to touch for years/decades. I would add from bitter experience that even with a long term approach you still need to be a bit brutal at times and cull the weaklings, taking a loss on the chin. It's a common approach, particularly if you're picking growth shares to hang on thinking things won't fall further or even buying in again (catching a falling knife) to reduce the % loss and/or hoping things go back up. Long term most of my best buys were the most boring ones.

Re: premium bonds.
The FSCS 1 year bonds are getting very close to 6% too. I might bung a load into some of them in the next few days.

As this has been boinged. I've been meaning to ask (and this seems as good a place as any), does anyone do the Postcode Lottery and have you won anything?

You mean the People's Postcode Lottery, or is there a different one for toighty types? Maybe an invite only one?Count Steer wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 5:41 pm As this has been boinged. That's the one. My partner (and her family) are working class! I know, how ghastly!Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 6:10 pmYou mean the People's Postcode Lottery, or is there a different one for toighty types? Re: premium bonds.
That's the one, PPL. My sister doesn't do it but her neighbours that do got about £13k each. That probably would sting a bit more if it was a million and it was only the people either side.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 6:10 pmYou mean the People's Postcode Lottery, or is there a different one for toighty types? I'm guessing that not many of my neighbours do it...

Yes and yes, a £10 stake, but only a couple of £10 wins and one £30 one I think it was.Count Steer wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 5:41 pm As this has been boinged. I've been meaning to ask (and this seems as good a place as any), does anyone do the Postcode Lottery and have you won anything?

Re: premium bonds.
That's not bad. We've got most of our ISAs locked in averaging 5% but might bung a bit in at 4%.
Never had them but remember my mum winning £5 when I was a nipper.
Was a special day

Re: premium bonds.
Don't you have to have them for several years in order to win at the average rate though? On average of course. So its also entirely possible you'd get buggery nothing for a year or three.
